The Rock Is Coming to WWE WrestleMania 32

The Rock delivered a late holiday gift via Instagram this week when he confirmed that he will indeed return to the WWE at WrestleMania 32. The announcement quells doubts that Dwayne Johnson’s movie schedule would preclude him from being a part of what could be the biggest WrestleMania attendance record in the event’s history.

What the announcement did not confirm or deny is whether or not the Rock will be wrestling. Most presume that the People’s Champion will not lace up the boots in Dallas, Texas. Dave Meltzer reports that insurance issues that came out of the Rock’s last match against John Cena are preventing him from wrestling. Meltzer does report however that those issues could clear up at some point and open the door for a return.

Most rumors coming out of WrestleMania 31 were that the plans for Mania 32 included a Triple H vs. Rock match. That certainly seemed apparent during the vignette the two cut at the SmackDown anniversary show. Other reports indicated that there were plans for former UFC champion Ronda Rousey to be a part of the match. The UFC president Dana White has flat out said that he won’t let Rousey wrestle and she has even confirmed in multiple interviews that she won’t be wrestling in Dallas.

Rock on the show certainly adds a big boost to the event. However, Rock’s true value is in the ring. While I don’t have any interest in a Triple H vs. Rock rematch, I could see the thinking behind it in that you have Rock in with a guy who can afford to lose unlike Brock Lesnar. On the other hand it seems like a complete waste of a good opportunity for the Great One. Regardless, Rock will be in Dallas but whether he’s wrestling or just making a cameo is still to be determined.
