The Rise Of the WWE Universal Title And Other Thoughts

WWE is doing the right thing by having a Fatal Four-Way Match at Summer Slam for the Universal Heavyweight Title. The “bigger is better” theory is alive and well as Brock Lesnar will have to escape from Roman Reigns, Samoa Joe and Braun Strowman if he wants to retain his title. For the first time since he captured the title from Goldberg, having The Beast Incarnate off camera while the other three combatants beat the hell out of each other makes sense.

And, it’s proving to be the most entertaining part of Monday Night Raw.

I doubt seriously the company would consider putting the title on Reigns as the fans still do not support the decision by WWE to continually book him in main events. Samoa Joe or Strowman could easily become the top heel in the brand, if given the chance. I’m not sure if the company is ready for Strowman as their face of Monday night just yet. Joe has proven he can be the “beast” as a champion and take heat from the fans while being adored at the same time.

It’s hard to dislike Strowman as a heel, which leads me to think at some point he becomes a babyface, if he isn’t one already.

I believe in the end, Joe walks out of SummerSlam with the title in hand and potentially a spoiler or two along with it.

A NEW SIDE OF BAYLEY?

The match between Bayley and Sasha Banks the other night might has signaled the emergence of a more aggressive Bayley as she heads toward SummerSlam. The two BFFs had of the more heated confrontations that fans have seen in some time. The noted history of the two, dating back to NXT, should warrant such intensity and could mean the fan favorite from California is ready to reclaim her Raw Women’s Title.

When Alexa Bliss confronted her top contender following the match, the often-sheepish heroine was more determined and focused. Fans need to see this side of the former NXT and Raw Women’s champion.

For so long fans and writers have talked about a heel turn from Banks, leading to a match at WrestleMania. Maybe that’s not what the division needs. The tide has turned again as the SmackDown Live Women’s Division is deeper and stronger on Tuesday nights. There are six performers who could wear gold. The same cannot be said for the red brand.

If Bayley can get over as a “warrior” of sorts and Nia Jax continues to improve in the ring, then WWE can build with the components it has. There must be a bigger role for Mickie James. The company might also think about moving Nikki Bella to Mondays once she returns to action.

THE RETURN OF DASH AND DAWSON

After watching Dash and Dawson take on the Hardys and then Anderson and Gallows, I am convinced these two will be the best tag team on Monday nights for a long time.

Dash Wilder and Scott Dawson, better known as The Revival, are as close to a throwback NWA tag team we have seen in some time. I think I said this about a year ago, but they remind me of Arn Anderson and Tully Blanchard. A solid, rugged team that brings back old school wrestling.

The tag team division on Monday nights is in a bit of turmoil as it resets itself. The New Day and The Usos are the best of the lot and reside on the SmackDown Live roster. Cesaro and Shemus are champs and still look great as a heel duo. Will WWE flip Dash and Dawson, making them a babyface team to balance power in the division?

Will the company take the momentum of these two and put the straps on them at SummerSlam going over the current champions?
