The Perfect WWE Role For Ric Flair

[adinserter block=”1″]There is a golden opportunity right now in the WWE in a critical spot. Triple H has laid down the gauntlet and all of the WWE superstars besides Daniel Bryan have remained silent. The locker room needs a voice, a respected voice, a loud voice, a legend’s voice. Enter Ric Flair!

Fans were eagerly anticipating the return of the Nature Boy the second news broke that he had severed his relationship with TNA Wrestling. Armchair bookers all over the Internet speculated on Flair’s role, most with wishful thinking. Everything from RAW G.M. to Dolph Ziggler’s manager was speculated and yet no idea could have been worse than what was actually booked.

Flair came back after weeks of speculation and after flirting with an angle with CM Punk and Paul Heyman, wound up in a manager’s spot. Nope, he wasn’t managing Daniel Bryan or Dolph Ziggler, he was managing The Miz. You could not find a more odd combination than these two yet this was the way WWE Creative wanted to maximize Flair’s talent. As you could have expected, it fizzled quickly.

It’s been awhile since those two unlikely allies were seen together and I think it is time to move on. Even Flair has joked in interviews about the odd pairing. Ric Flair is a legend and whether you like his antics outside of the ring or not, he still means something on television. Flair brings a unique brand of credibility and authority that very few on the WWE roster can bring with them to television. It is time to start maximizing their investment.

Let’s go back to Monday night and the big angle at the end of RAW. Triple H dictated from the ramp as every WWE superstar on the roster (with a few exceptions) looked on in frustration. Trips challenged his employees to step up yet nobody had the guts to do so. This is where Ric Flair comes in.

I like Daniel Bryan, like him a lot, but he is not a strong voice. We can argue whether he is a draw or not but I don’t think casual fans think he stands a chance against the corporation (so to speak). Even if he could, Bryan couldn’t do it alone. Bryan and the rest of the locker room need a voice, a leader, and someone that fans can believe in. Who better than Flair?

The history here between Flair, Randy Orton, Triple H, and the McMahon family is well known. The obvious lineage from Evolution could play a big part in this storyline. The conflict Triple H would face in having to destroy his idol and mentor could make for some compelling television. It worked before! Bryan could have that strong promo in the background and that stamp of approval he needs to be considered elite.

It doesn’t have to stop there. They could play this thing out for months, maybe even through WrestleMania. The end result here is predictable I agree. Flair turning on Bryan or even John Cena and regrouping with Orton and Hunter to rule the company could make for even better television in 2014. By that point Flair could be the guy to take the bumps and get the heat for the group, allowing Hunter and Randy to wait it out for the big payoff.

Letting the best talker on the roster sit on the sidelines because he had a little too much to drink during a video game promotion is helping nobody. Flair could be the icing on the cake that this angle needs to make it something special. Get him in the mix and give the locker room the voice they have been looking for.

  1. This sounds like an excellent booking. Flair has been and will always be the best talker in the business. It would be cool to see him and Trips go head-to-head on the mic. Great idea.
