The Miz to Win at WWE Money in the Bank 2018

There is no reason for me to even try to hide the fact that I am straight stealing this from my friend and local sports writer here in Jacksonville, Mike Kaye.

The Miz will win the Money in the Bank ladder match on June 17.

In looking at the participants in the main event match, I was juggling who might climb the ladder and claim the famed briefcase other than Braun Strowman. The Miz is the only logical winner, setting up a historic confrontation with Daniel Bryan at SummerSlam.

Strowman would be the logical choice to finally have a chance at claiming the Universal Heavyweight Title, but a few factors prevent that from happening.

Brock Lesnar is still counting money while hiding with the red brand’s belt. Also, it has been rumored that Bobby Lashley will be facing Lesnar at SummerSlam, which would preclude another colossal confrontation. I don’t see WWE booking Lashley to win the belts and then lose it to the Monster Amongst Men. And, well, Roman Reigns is still lurking around, hoping for a chance to claim the red brand’s top belt.

Just because it’s logical, doesn’t mean it has to happen. Professional wrestling has proven that for decades. So, in the interest of being creative, and yes, I’m stealing this again from my friend, this is how The Miz-Bryan title match comes to fruition.

First, The Miz grabs the briefcase in the ladder match. AJ Styles, the current WWE champion, beats Shinsuke Nakamura in the “Last Man Standing Match” at Money in the Bank, but does it in such a way that he is in capacitated. The Miz cashes in at the pay-per-view and celebrates another run with WWE’s top strap.

Fresh off a victory over big Cass that Sunday night, Bryan walks into the arena the following Tuesday and challenges his rival to a match at SummerSlam, sending the fans in attendance and around the world into a frenzy.

I swear, Kaye couldn’t write a better scenario.

It’s possible the move by the former Intercontinental Champion may not happen the same night, but you get the idea. Fans have been clamoring for this confrontation between The Miz and Bryan ever since that epic meltdown on “Talking Smack” where the three-time world champion walked off the set.

It is one of the better storylines WWE has created that has never come to a final resolution. With Bryan being cleared to perform, it’s only a matter of time before such a match takes place. Because it is a hot button topic, what better way to complete Bryan’s journey back to performing than a finale like this?

The Miz is one of the best, if not the best performer in the company today. His ability in the ring and on the mic, as we have talked before, is a throwback to the likes of Arm Anderson, Nick Bockwinkel, Ric Flair and Randy Savage. He is one of the few current WWE superstars who could succeed in 1980s professional wrestling.

The current story line between Bryan and Big Cass will die a painful death in less than three weeks. I wasn’t sure how WWE would conclude the triple-threat match between the two performers and Samoa Joe Tuesday night, but made the right decision by having Joe go over, and win a spot in the MITB ladder match.

In this case, it’s OK to think about the second most important pay-per-view event on WWE’s roster ahead of time. Bryan and The Miz are money on every level, and the build towards such a match will rival old WWF feuds.

Hopefully, WWE will see to it that it headlines SummerSlam playing on the comments made by The Miz weeks ago that the WWE Title should be the main event matching every show on the company’s calendar.

As a fan, I am salivating over the potential of this type of feud. WWE doesn’t always hit the mark in promoting and booking such a confrontation. The two superstars will do that for the themselves and could possibly give fans the Match of the Year and something to talk about for years to come.
