The Michael Vick Show Debuts Tonight In Philadelphia

Michael VickThe national spotlight will be on the Philadelphia Eagles tonight. Make no mistake about it, it has nothing to do with the birds or the return of Brian Westbrook. The circus tent features one player tonight and that player is Michael Vick. Will we see the great NFL quarterback and weapon we have been promised or a man who’s better days are far behind him?

Ironically, Michael Vick’s first NFL game back from suspension comes at the place he played his last NFL game 2 ½ years ago. Vick’s last NFL game was at the Linc on Week 17 of the 2006 NFL regular season. The Eagles beat the Atlanta Falcons on that night in a 24-17 thriller. For the record, the great quarterback Michael Vick was never finished the game due to injury.

So it is here and as much as scream about my disgust, Michael Vick will officially put on Eagles green tonight. Unlike some sheep that put their conscious aside in exchange for an Eagles win, I can’t do that. There is nothing that Vick can do to win me over, but I have come to terms with the fact he is here. Now it is time to prove me wrong and show us what he has tonight.

From bankruptcy court to the playing field, Vick will be likely be the second quarterback on the depth chart tonight. Andy Reid has said that Vick won’t play in the fourth quarter. Starters usually play a half in the third pre season game, so I would expect a full dose of Vick in the third quarter. At least that’ll give the fans in attendance plenty of time to get liquored up for the debut of the Michael Vick Show.

The fireworks may or may not begin early in the night. The NAACP has threatened to protest with a Pro-Vick rally outside of the stadium. There is nothing like throwing more fuel on the fire right among civil Eagles fans. I still don’t particularly understand the rally. I mean he is here, he has a job, so I don’t get what are they rallying about? Why not rally for Brian Westbrook and Donovan McNabb while you’re at it? Well, I wouldn’t expect the McNabb support from the local NAACP anytime soon.

So what do I want to see from Vick tonight? I want to see if this entire circus is worth the trouble. Does he still have the legs? Can he even catch a ball if he is slotted in the Wildcat formation? Does he have the patience and the timing for this west coast offense? What kind of leader is he in the huddle? I won’t be cheering for Mike Vick if he scores a touchdown, but I also won’t boo him for being there. I will boo the Eagles organization though if the guy has nothing left and the team put us all through this charade for nothing.
