WWE and its’ fans are in a war over CM Punk, or the lack of the Straight Edge Superstar. After news broke that Punk had supposedly quit WWE, his fans continued to support him. CM Punk fans have continued to blame WWE for not booking the former WWE Champion the right way. So while the fans are upset with WWE, Punk has not been heard or seen
So who is winning the war? Well, at this point WWE is clearly winning. Fans were fooled when Raw began with Punk’s music, only to have Paul Heyman enter ringside. While it appeared Heyman was speaking as Punk’s friend again, the conversation soon became about Brock Lesnar and his match against the Undertaker at WrestleMania. Fans continued chanting for Punk, hoping he would return at some point during the show. However, WWE ignored them. Triple H didn’t acknowledge the Punk chants and neither did Daniel Bryan.
How could WWE fans win this war? If Punk returned, would that make fans the winner? Possibly. WWE fans don’t know the true reason behind Punk’s departure, but it may have to do with how he had been booked and WrestleMania. Punk supposedly wasn’t interested in wrestling Triple H at WrestleMania. If Punk returned and was inserted into the WWE title picture, the fans would have won.
However, this war really shouldn’t be between WWE and the fans. It should be between WWE, the fans and Punk. I have a strong feeling that WWE didn’t want Punk to leave. He sells merchandise; he is a great wrestler who has a lot of fans. My feeling is that Punk wanted to leave. So should fans really be mad at WWE or Punk?
I understand the anger against WWE. I also don’t think Punk had been booked well at all since losing the WWE title to The Rock at Royal Rumble 2013. It was obvious Punk wasn’t going to defeat the Undertaker at WrestleMania 29. Plus, Punk’s feud with Paul Heyman went on for too long and with little to no purpose.
However, WWE fans should be more upset with Punk than they are. Why are they chanting for someone who left? If every wrestler who was unhappy with the way they were booked, the roster would be no more than ten superstars. Punk quit. Why would you support someone who quit?
