That Other MMA Fight Of The Year On Saturday Night

Eddie Alvarez vs. Michael Chandler videoLost in the talk of the great Dan Henderson vs. Mauricio Shogun Rua fight Saturday night was another MMA Fight of the Year candidate. Eddie Alvarez vs. Michael Chandler battled for the Bellator lightweight championship in a fight you must see if you are any kind of MMA fan.

I don’t do much Bellator blogging here because quite frankly, I just don’t have the time to follow it. That is the same reason I don’t promote a lot of independent pro wrestling, or even more TNA for that matter. However, this weekend’s Bellator championship fight is one that deserves attention be it here and anywhere else that talks Mixed Martial-Arts.

Bellator were kind enough to post the video on You Tube, which I in turn have posted here for your viewing pleasure. Make sure to watch all 21 minutes of this exciting fight video. This fight starts out as if it is about to end in under a minute, yet winds up going four out of five rounds. If you appreciated the heart that Rua and Henderson showed at UFC 139, you are going to love the efforts out of Eddie Alvarez and Michael Chandler.

Bellator will be jumping over to Spike TV in a little over a year. I don’t know if they can give the UFC a run for their money, but weekly fights like this will certainly help their cause. I won’t fool you into thinking that you are going to see this fight on every Bellator show. If you did, this wouldn’t be so special would it?

So before you debate with your friends whether Shogun Rua vs. Dan Henderson was the fight of 2011, do yourself a favor and give this fight a shot. You may not come away with a different opinion, but it will sure give you something to think about.
