There hasn’t been a story in wrestling as feel good as that of Kris Travis in…well, ever. The 31-year-old was in the prime of his career, taking on such opponents as WWE NXT Champion Kevin Owens and Finn Balor. In late 2014, Trav made it to the finals of TNA Wrestling’s British Boot Camp 2, and was perhaps the main competition for eventual winner Mark Andrews. Then everything changed.
For the next 18 weeks, Kris would undergo intense sessions of chemotherapy, and it appeared at some points that it may have been too much for him. Kris, however, wasn’t going to let cancer win that easily. He kept on fighting, and fighting, and fighting, because he loves the business he’s a part of, and its that love for wrestling that helped him get through the darkest part of his life.
Trav announced on Twitter not long ago that he was in remission after the chemotherapy as well as an operation to remove a tumour, and the good news didn’t stop there. At Preston City Wrestling’s latest event, Showdown, General Manager and Boom! Champion (yes, you read that correctly) Joanna Rose announced that Trav will make his in-ring return at PCW’s 4th Anniversary Show against fellow British Boot Camp contestant Sha Samuels, on an already stacked show that will feature Drew Galloway, Samoa Joe, reDRagon and many more.
After 10 months away from doing what he loves, he has the opportunity to get back in the ring and live out his childhood dream in front of his loyal fans. Not only that, he’s applied for WWE Tough Enough. So come on Vince, pick up the god damn phone and tell him he’s been accepted already, will ya? I think he’s already proven that he’s certainly ‘tough enough’.
You can see Kris’ return to the ring at PCW: The Fourth Awakens on August 7th in Preston, England. I’ll be there, and for Kris’ sake, you should be too.
