SOJA Wins Grammy Award For Best Reggae Album, Twitter Reacts

American reggae band SOJA (Soldiers of Jah Army) has secured the award for Best Reggae Album at the Grammys 2022. They have won the award for their album Beauty In The Silence.

This year, the Grammys took place in Las Vegas on Sunday, April 3rd, 2022. Trevor Noah played the role of host for the award show. We must say it was a star-studded night.

SOJA wins their first Grammy award

The results of this award were displayed on the Twitter handle of the Recording Academy and during the pre-telecast at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. It must be a very special moment for the whole band as they get their hands on their first Grammy ever.

The band is based in Arlington, Virginia. Reggae Album award saw the light of the day in the year 1986. This is the first time in the history of the Reggae Album award, that the names of two women are present on the list of nominees at the same time.

In the past, only a total of four women have been nominated in the category of Best Reggae Album. First, Etana received the nomination in the year 2018 followed by Sister Carol in 1996. Later on, Rita Marley was nominated in 1999. Koffee bagged the trophy of Best Reggae Album in 2020.

Who were the other nominees alongside SOJA?

The other nominees in the same category were Sean Paul for his album Live N Livin, Spice for her album 10, Jesse David Royal for his album Royal, Gramps Morgan for his album Positive Vibration and Etana for her album Pamoja.

The band SOJA consists of eight members and they are as follows Jacob Hemphill, Bobby Lee Jefferson, Ryan Bird Berty, Ken Brownell, Patrick O’Shea, Hellman Escorcia, Rafael Rodriguez, and Trevor Young.

How did the fans react to the win of SOJA at the Grammys 2022?

As soon as SOJA won the trophy of Best Reggae Album, the fans couldn’t stop themselves from reacting to the news. They flooded the social media platform Twitter with loads of messages.

One fan wrote, “Soja? Been seeing American bands headlining Reggae shows and some of the largest reggae acts opening for them and now dancehall is being replaced by Afrobeat in the commercial scene. One of Jamaica’s largest export is in trouble.”

Another user wrote, “LOL……so Soja won???? Knowing how backward The Grammys are, next year BTS will probably win the Best Reggae album as well #scammys.”

Followed by a user who tweeted, “That band Soja winning the #Grammy for best reggae album coupled with that jackass sayin “alright alright” with a horrible fake accent is a mockery. Absolute joke.”

A user wrote, “The entire Jamaica and the Caribbean have never heard of SOJA so how the B****CLAT they won a Reggae Grammy over actual Jamaican reggae artists like Spice, Sean Paul, etc. Bob Marley a turn in his grave. “
