In the wake of Orlando Magic head coach Stan Van Gundy’s comments about how the online sports betting media has already made its decision about who will win the NBA MVP award this season, there has been a lot of talk about whether or not there is another player in the association that deserves it more.
The Magic themselves have a potential candidate in All Star center Dwight Howard, while over in the west there is a guy named Kobe Bryant that has led the Los Angeles Lakers to consecutive NBA titles and is playing well again this year. While both players deserve recognition as key contributors to teams that would be nowhere near as strong as they are without them, the truth is that no player in the league has been more valuable to his team than Derrick Rose has been to Chicago.
Not since Michael Jordan led the 1997-98 Bulls to the NBA championship had the Bulls won 50 games in a single season, another streak that ended with Rose’s rise to prominence in 2011. The All Star guard has Chicago on top of the NBA standings in the East ahead of the defending conference champion Boston Celtics, and his pay per head
play has been the biggest factor in their dominance. Rose has averaged a career-high 24.9 points per game and 7.8 assists, not only leading his team in scoring but opening things up for his teammates to put up solid numbers as well. His free throw percentage is above 80-percent for the first time in his three years in the NBA, and both his three-point hits and attempts are also better than they’ve ever been.
Rose has really helped some of the younger players on his team, especially the big men such as Joakim Noah and Omer Asik, who are both performing at the highest sports betting bonus level since coming into the association. Noah leads the team in rebounds and blocks with 11.2 and 1.4, while also averaging 12.4 points per game, the fourth-best mark on the team. Luol Deng and Kyle Korver have also benefited from the double teams that Rose has commanded, with averages of 17.8 and 8.6 points per game respectively.
Both the Bulls and Celtics have 12 games left on their respective NBA standings
schedule, and if Chicago can maintain its pace there is no reason not to think that Rose will be the MVP. Watching the way that the player wearing No. 1 for the Bulls has been the best player for them all year has been incredible, and while Van Gundy feels as though the media has already made their decision on the award, there is no way that they will be able to reverse them if Chicago finishes first. A case can be made for both Howard and Bryant as MVP, but no player is more deserved of the award than Rose.
