Welcome back loyal readers to this week’s episode of ROH on HDNet. We have some interesting match ups this week as well as the start of the Tag Wars tournament. Let’s go down to ringside.
The Embassy vs. The Dark City Fight Club
This is an opening round match in the ROH Tag Wars tournament. Shawn Daivari and Ernesto Osiris are representing the Embassy in this match. These two teams have been feuding for several weeks now, which adds some nice drama to the storyline. The Embassy controls the action early with some under handed tactics. As usual, the DCFC use their superior power advantage to take control. It’s just a matter of time before they hit their Project Mayhem finisher for the win. And just like that, the DCFC are on to the next round.
Briscoe Brothers Interview
Kyle Durden interviews two very fired up Briscoe brothers, who are in singles action tonight against the ROH World Tag Team Champions the Kings of Wrestling.
Eddie Edwards Ten Minute Hunt
Rasche Brown Interview
Kyle Durden interviews the “SkullKrusher”, who finally gets his hands on the Necro Butcher next week for the first time since Necro joined the Embassy.
Delirious vs. Austin Aries
In case you didn’t know, these two have a little bit of a history with each other. And for those of you who were unaware…LET’S ROLL THE CLIP!!! Aries comes out in street clothes and produces a doctor’s note that says he is unable to wrestle this evening. So therefore…
Delirious vs. Kenny King
King has really blossomed under the tutelage of A Double. But tonight, Delirious is teaching him a thing or two early on. However, he is too preoccupied on trying to get revenge on Aries and this allows King to take control. King executes a series of athletic high impact moves but Delirious is on a mission tonight. He hits a series of head butts and then locks in the Cobra Clutch. Aries makes the save with some timely interference, which allows King to get the roll up for the win.
Claudio Castagnoli vs. Jay Briscoe
Here is one half of the co-main event of the evening. Jay doesn’t even wait for his introduction to finish as he rushes into the ring. But his enthusiasm gets the better of him as Claudio uses his superior technical skills to gain the advantage. Castagnoli is one of the most under rated workers in the business today in my opinion. He has the complete skill set and does a great job generating heat from the fans with his elitist European gimmick. But when it comes to heart, there aren’t many bigger then Jay Briscoe. And after a series of near falls he gets the reversal roll up for the win. But his celebration is short lived as Chris Hero runs out and he and Claudio execute the KRS ONE (Kings Reign Supreme Over Nearly Everyone) on Jay. Mark runs out to make the save, and that leads us right into…
Here is the second half of the co-main event tonight. Mark comes out like a man possessed in this one. He abuses Hero from one corner of the ring to the other. Much like the last match though, skill gains the advantage over strength. Hero lands a series of flying kicks and elbows. Much like Castagnoli, Chris Hero has all the tools to be a top performer. And as I say that, Hero misses a moonsault and allows Briscoe to get back into the match. After a few near falls, Hero hits a vicious rolling elbow followed by a running power bomb but can only get a two count. Claudio throws Hero the loaded elbow pad, but before he can use it, Briscoe gets the win with a backslide. A backslide? I’ve watched wrestling for thirty years and I can remember the last time someone actually one with a backslide.
This was a good episode this week. There were lots of matches to choose from this week and the co-main event idea was a nice touch. Next week has a stellar main event planned, as ROH World Champion Tyler Black takes on “Fallen Angel” Christopher Daniels. I can’t wait for that one. And speaking of can’t wait, at the end of the broadcast a little video package airs that highlights the top tag teams in ROH. And at the end, it announces that on September 11th, there will be a new addition to the tag team roster … Charlie Haas and Shelton Benjamin. That’s right, “The World’s Greatest Tag Team” are coming to Ring of Honor wrestling. The best tag team wrestling in the world just got a little better.
Vince DeHoratus lives in suburban Philadelphia with his wife and two kids. He has been a life long wrestling fan and he has passed that love onto his son. Though not quite yet “middle aged and crazy”, he is fast approaching it.
