Ric Flair Returning To WWE TV Full-Time

The Nature Boy is getting back in the game. A new report indicates that Ric Flair is back on track to full-time employment in the WWE. That is something to get excited about. How he will be used…well you should probably temper your enthusiasm.

Dave Meltzer has all of the details in the newest Wrestling Observer newsletter. According to Meltzer, there is a plan to get Flair back into the company as a full-time character. Flair must undergo and pass a cardiovascular physical before he is cleared. Flair has also dropped some weight recently in anticipation of a return. That’s the good news.

Meltzer also has a report on possible creative ideas for his return. While a role in the Evolution vs. Shield feud makes sense but that would be too easy for this creative department right? Why put Flair there when you can put him with the arguably the least over guy on the roster…The Miz.

“One idea that was suggested was to put Flair back with Miz with the deal they had started several months back when Flair gave Miz the figure four leglock. The feeling is they can put them together when Miz returns from shooting “The Marine” and try and elevate Miz to a top singles babyface level. Obviously a lot of people are skeptical of that as a waste of resources, feeling that Miz is damaged goods, and even if he isn’t, he needs to be a heel to have any upward mobility because wrestling fans naturally don’t like him and every previous babyface run hasn’t done well.”

That has to be one of the worst ideas I have seen since they originally put Flair with Miz. If you are going to give a guy a manager/mentor who is seen by many as the greatest of all-time, he probably should be in the top spot. The Miz isn’t going anywhere and even Flair has made jokes about their run together. Those jokes weren’t very complimentary by the way.

Meltzer also reveals that Flair is pushing to manage Dolph Ziggler. Now that is something I think most of us can get behind. There were rumors last year when Flair was coming back that Ziggler and Flair would be paired together. I don’t know if there was ever any substance to those or if that was just wishful thinking. Ziggler definitely needs something and an alliance with Flair would pay far more dividends than it would with Miz.

Another idea I would throw out there is to stick him with the Shield. When Roman Reigns splits from the Shield I’d keep him and Flair together. Reigns could use Flair, especially when it comes to cutting promos. I think a Reigns/Flair combination makes most sense here. There is serious money to be made with Reigns. I’d do everything they can to put him in the best spot possible when it is time to pull that trigger.

I think it is only fair to point out that Flair has appeared to be dialed back in recent appearances. Now that could be Flair following a script or maybe at 65 he has burnt out. I hate to think that but with the life he has led over the last several decades it’s hard to imagine anyone staying on top of their game. I hope this new full-time deal gives Flair some renewed confidence and he delivers the kind of promos we are used to getting from the Nature Boy.

Whether he is with Miz, Ziggler, Reigns, or Hornswoggle it will just be nice to see Flair back on TV more often. Woo!
