Rashad Evans Thinks Jon Jones Faked Injury

Rashad Evans is not surprised at UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones decision not to get surgery on his injured thumb. The champ has opted physical rehab over a surgical knife, which to Evans proves that Jones doesn’t want to fight him.

Jon Jones and Rashad Evans were former training partners who according to Evans, promised never to fight each other. That all changed when Jones won the UFC light heavyweight title. Jones immediately stepped up and offered to fight a reluctant Evans. As fast as Evans vs. Jones was signed for UFC 133, it was called off. Jones pulled out of the fight citing an injury which required surgery. The irony here is that once the fight was off, the trash talk between the fighters has elevated to all new levels.

The Rashad Evans vs. Jon Jones story has really taken on a life of its own over the last few months. They have acted more like lifelong enemies than best friends over the last few weeks. Rashad feels burnt and he certainly isn’t letting it go. In a matter of weeks Evans emotions have gone from sadness and disappointment in Jones to anger and doubt about the integrity of the champ.

Evans and Jones have elected to take their disagreements to Twitter in the meantime. Evans and Jones are certainly in line for one of the UFC’s new Twitter bonuses after a recent exchange of verbal pleasantries through the social medium. Evans did his best to get that Twitter bonus for most interesting tweets over the last few days.

If I’m lying, I’m dying! Ask @jonnybones when is his surgery & who was his dr! He so fake he fake surgeries!! Now that’s fake! – @SugaRashadEvans

Question: if u r or were so confident then y fake a thumb injury? Cuz just between me & y’all he don’t need surgery! – @SugaRashadEvans

Jones responded with a few interesting tweets of his own.

So rashad just texted me calling me a “fake @*s white boy” #Cmonson and Rampage is an uncle tom? Someone needs a BETTER counselor – @JonnyBones

Rashad go ahead and try to play me now, never have I seen a man so Jealous and Self Centered. I almost feel bad for you – @JonnyBones

Evans has certainly taken things up a notch by calling Jones a “white boy.” That is a comment sure to spark conversation among the African American MMA Community. It also appears that Dana White didn’t have this in mind when he offered Twitter bonuses. White immediately squashed Evans’ theory about Jones faking his injury.

“Nobody lies about injuries,” White said to “We fly them to Las Vegas to see our doctor.”

[adinserter block=”1″]For two guys reluctant to fight one another, they are sure working hard to create one of the biggest grudge matches of the year. According to reports, with Jones decision not to have surgery, he should be ready to go before the end of the year. That would put Evans vs. Jones on pace for November or December. The added verbal fuel has a chance to take this fight past one million buys and turn it into the biggest fight of the year.

Of course this all means nothing if Phil Davis wins in Philly, and rarely do things go as planned in the UFC.
