Rampage Jackson to Guest Host WWE RAW

Rampage JacksonThe WWE Universe is used to seeing their superstars crossover into the world of the UFC. Yet on June 7, a UFC superstar finally crosses into the world of WWE RAW. One week after fighting Rashad Evans at UFC 114, Rampage Jackson will be a WWE Guest Host with the A-Team.

This is huge news in my opinion. The WWE hasn’t even gone out of their way to promote this like I thought they would. Rampage Jackson vs. Rashad Evans at UFC 114 10 days before WWE RAW. The fight is projected to set records. The timing couldn’t have been better for the WWE. Other than Brock Lesnar, Rampage Jackson and the timing is likely the biggest UFC get that the WWE will ever have.

The irony here is that the WWE hasn’t even acknowledged Rampage Jackson as a UFC fighter. The copy on simply promotes the A-Team movie. “Don’t you love it when a plan comes together? A-Team stars Bradley Cooper, Quinton Jackson and Sharlto Copley will ensure that Monday night is as explosive and action packed as their upcoming movie when they host Raw, live from Miami.” The only extremely vague reference is that they link Quinton Jackson as a keyword so if a visitor scrolled over his name they would see some external links. This is obviously a paid keyword link. Quinton Jackson is the only Guest Host with a keyword link.

June 7 is also a big night for WWE RAW. WWE RAW will be live from Miami, FL that night. The WWE tried to get some heavy hitters to act as WWE Guest Hosts. Reportedly The Rock and Tiger Woods were at the top of the list. WWE RAW will also be three-hours that night. The likelyhood is that Rampage Jackson will get more air-time than most WWE Guest Hosts with the extended WWE RAW.

Rampage Jackson appearing on WWE RAW is a huge conflict of interest to the UFC. Spike TV airs all of the UFC programming (along with Versus now). Spike TV is also the home to TNA Wrestling and reportedly has some financial interest in the company. Rampage Jackson appearing on TNA Wrestling would have undoubtedly given them a boost in their ratings. Whether the WWE advertises him as the draw or not, he is the big draw on June 7. It is a big conflict of interest in my opinion. It would have been really interesting to see how this played out if TNA Impact continued to air on Monday nights, especially with this WWE RAW starting at 8PM.

Of all of the non-wrestler WWE Guest Hosts, Rampage Jackson has the chance to steal the show. Rampage Jackson is a huge pro wrestling fan which is obvious to his homage to the Junkyard Dog. If the WWE lets him, I would imagine he would be willing to go nuts and get involved throughout the show. The only ones who can (and probably will) screw this up are the WWE. As great as this night could be, it would also not surprise me to see the WWE completely ignore Rampage Jackson’s UFC career and keep him in the background. This is where the absence of Shane McMahon really hurts for MMA fans. Shane McMahon is a huge UFC fan and would have had a good chance of educating his father and the writing staff about the opportunity that had fallen in their hands.

The early signs aren’t good to be quite honest. The fact that there is no mention of Rampage Jackson’s UFC career or status in the press release is not good. Vince McMahon has been quoted several times saying he doesn’t see the UFC as competition. Others question that, especially after a disappointing WrestleMania 26 buyrate the day after a live UFC event. Now that Rampage Jackson is locked into appearing on WWE RAW it will be very interesting to see how they use him.
