Preparing for Brock Lesnar’s WWE Return

OK, WWE, you have my attention. Finally (in my best Rock voice), the WWE has come back to REALITY!

Finally, the WWE knows what is best for itself and it seems the company will follow an old theory that used to work – put the world title on someone you know will bring in green. While I do not agree with the idea (and this is a rumor) that John Cena will win the Money in the Bank Ladder Match at the MITB pay-per-view this weekend, I know it is what is best for business and leads to a hot summer, if true, with Brock Lesnar holding WWE gold at SummerSlam.

Right about now, in the “Go Home” Raw, the company really ramped up the ante of sorts, announcing the second ladder match to name a contract holder to challenge the WWE World Champion at some point.

You know this is some of Vince McMahon thinking and making changes that will ensure cable buys and more interest in the coming months. But I also have to stand back and think of “What Could Have Been” with two ladder matches, and a decent Divas match, a tag team title match and now, the building of the future for this company? It seems McMahon has his finger on the right buttons. Let’s hope he pushes them to fulfill the promise of a spectacular Sunday night.

According to Bleacher Report, Cena is expected to win the title and hold it until SummerSlam where he will drop it to Lesnar. The thought of having Roman Reigns or Cesaro hold the title for a short period of time does not make sense. What this could do is set up Cesaro vs. Lesnar for the title at some point before the end of the year, with Paul Heyman choosing Cesaro’s side, thus Lesnar turning face and saving the company even more.

This is all predicated on what happens with Daniel Bryan and his recovery.

Back in the day, the NWA continued to give the world title back to Ric Flair because like him or hate him, Flair could sell and make money for the company. Back when territories mattered he would walk in, insult the territory’s top face (Jerry Lawler, Jack Brisco, Dusty Rhodes, and Harley Race) and it was on. Flair would make fans love the heel as well, he was just that good.

Cena, love him or hate him, is a lot like Flair – he can sell. Fans cheer him, fans boo him and he rakes money at the gate and sells merchandise like Hulk Hogan did in the early 1980s.

In terms of the second MITB match (the contract match), it should be better than the actual title match (they usually are), it is a shame that we know Seth Rollins is going to win – as The Authority has already stated (Triple H) it expects him to. But wouldn’t the WWE have been better suited to build a summer of Roman Reigns as the champion with Rollins as the contender and a culmination at SummerSlam?

This reminds me a lot like the NWA building Barry Windham up as such a great contender, beating everyone but Ric Flair. Reigns could beat the hell out of everyone and become the best wrestler of this era not to win the WWE World Title. Sadly, it is a strong possibility. If Wade Barrett has not won the world title by now, he may never win it. Time has passed him by in an odd way, now that he is the Intercontinental Champion. Too bad the WWE blew it with that one as well.
