Finally, someone has decided to take some sense of leadership when it comes to this “Divas Revolution” WWE has concocted that has gone nowhere until last week when Paige decided to take matters into her own hands at the expense of Charlotte and her victory celebration on Raw.
She turned the Divas Division on its ear for a bit while speaking the gospel about how she felt concerning the current state of women in the company.
Paige had a chance to talk about her decision to sound off with her “Paige Pipe Bomb” with Channel Guide Magazine. While this was not the proverbial “bomb” that would shock the world because it was known about by WWE, it still had the desired effect for everyone involved.
“I felt like the whole ‘Divas Revolution’ thing started to get stale,” she said. “I thought it definitely needed a kick in the ass a little bit. Vince [McMahon] and our writers were so cool with the promo. They definitely gave me the freedom to say what I wanted. I kept it as tame as possible. I wanted to go a little bit harder, but I thought, ‘Nah, I’ll save it.’
“It was definitely an adrenaline rush. I wanted to be the bad guy and am happy to be the bad guy. I don’t mind being hated. But the crowd was so receptive to it and great. They were cheering most of it. I was like, ‘No, that’s not the way it was supposed to be.’ It was great. I was very nervous before doing it. I just wanted to get out there and kick some butt and light a fire under the ‘Divas Revolution’ again.”
What gets me about all of this is the fact the 23-year old is telling viewers it was all part of the plan by herself and WWE. Again, where is the mystery in all of this? There are times where Kayfabe is a skill wrestlers need to be taught.
How will the rest of the year play out? How will WWE eventually get to a Charlotte-Paige match while not burying Becky Lynch and Sasha Banks? I don’t think everything has been worked out yet – as if the creative team is sleep walking through all of this.
The best bet right now – although I am not in favor of it, is for there to be a Triple Threat Match involving Paige, Charlotte and Nikki Bell, who gets her rematch in the contract clause. Paige is the face and heel in all of this and although the right move was to put the belt on Charlotte to begin with, it is Paige who will be the driving force to make sure this new angle succeeds or fails.
