Only Fools and Horses Star Ron Pember Passes Away at 87

Ron Pember, the British actor has passed away at the age of 87. The actor’s career spanned 30 years where he appeared in the popular movie Only Fools and Horses. Ron’s family confirmed the news of his death.

Ron was a British actor, dramatist, and stage director during his career. Here are more details about Ron’s death:

Who was Ron Pember?

Ronald Henry Pember or ‘Ron’ Pember was born on 11 April 1934 in the country of Essex. Ron attained formal education and around the mid-1950s, he was enlisted as an Aircraftman in a part of the United Kingdom’s National Service military training system with the Royal Air Force.

After that, he became a member of The Penguin Players, a Bexhill-On-Sea repertory company, and performed at the De La Warr Pavillion. In 1959, Ron debuted at the London stage Mermaid Theatre in a production of Treasure Island where he played the role of Harry.

Then in 1961, he made his television debut in the series Looking About where he played a very short role of a wounded soldier. Then in 1964, Ron made his cinema debut in the film The Pumpkin Eater however his role was uncredited in the film.

Ron joined the National Theatre Company of London in the period of 1965 to 1968. Then he left the troupe in 1969 and went to New York City to direct a tour of a production of The Treasure Island where he traveled to multiple cities in Canada.

Ron got married to Yvonne Tylee in 1959 and after suffering a stroke in the year 1992, Pember gave up on acting and retired at Southend.

Ron’s Death

Ron Pember died at 87 at his death was confirmed by his grandson Paul Pember. Paul took to Twitter to share the news of Ron’s death where he also shared several pictures of Ron throughout his career. Paul wrote: “The sadness now is the happiness then. That’s the deal. 11.04.1934 – 08.03.2022 #ronpember #grandad”.

The tributes started pouring in as soon as the news of Ron’s death came out. Fans and acquaintances alike grieved the loss of Ron and paid tribute to his astounding career.

Morris Bright, the chair of Elstree studios responded to Paul’s tweet with: “I grew up seeing Ron as a kindly crook in fave drama Rumpole of the Bailey and numerous roles in Crown Court. He was born to play slightly shady roles.’

Meanwhile, the Only Fools and Horses social media account wrote: ‘We are saddened to hear of the news of the death of Ron Pember… Our thoughts and warm wishes go to his family and friends.”
