NBA Betting – Billups returns to the Motor City

Chauncey BillupsSports betting players remember the impact of Chauncey Billups trade from Detroit to Denver which took place last year. The Pistons have never been the same, while Billups led his hometown team to the Western Conference finals. Billups and the Nuggets will head to Detroit on Thursday night for an NBA betting matchup.

Denver Nuggets vs Detroit Pistons betting – Thursday, December 10, 7:30 PM ET

The Nuggets (16-6) had a four-game winning streak broken with a 107-95 loss in Charlotte on Tuesday, and this will be the last game in a four-game swing for Denver, who is now a respectable 7-5 away from home. Billups enjoyed playing his old team last year, averaging 32.0 points in two meetings with the Pistons, including 34 points in his return to Detroit, a 100-95 loss on March 3rd.

The Detroit Pistons (8-12 ahead of Wednesday’s game in Philadelphia) have won their last three games at home, including a 98-94 win over Washington on Sunday night, powered by 25 points from Rodney Stuckey, the player the Pistons chose to replace Billups with. All five of the top Detroit scorers against Denver are either gone (Allen Iverson and Arron Afflalo, who were traded for Billups, as well as Rasheed Wallace) or hurt (Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince).

Sports betting odds in your sportsbook should favor the Pistons at home, where they’re 6-4. After a pair of losses to the Pistons last year, you know Billups wants to get a win over the team he led to the 2004 NBA title, winning the Finals MVP in the process. The Pistons haven’t quite recovered from losing Billups, who was the glue of their experienced team, and now with Ben Gordon and Charlie Villenueva in the fold, Detroit is still trying to figure out what works for their team. Meanwhile, the Nuggets are a sports betting favorite to at least reach the Western Conference finals again, thanks in no small part to Billups, who has the team playing more mature and under control. If the Nuggets can drop 100, they increase their chances of winning significantly: Denver is 13-3 when they score 100 points or more.
