Mindhunter Season 3 Release Date, Renewal and Plot Updates

In 2017, Netflix released the first season of Mindhunter, which consisted of ten episodes. Another season launched on August 16, 2019. However, in January 2020, Netflix reported that the third season was on hold indefinitely due to Fincher’s decision to achieve other productions.

Mindhunter is an American psychological-thriller drama, based on crime book series with a similar name. Created by Joe Penhall, the show is set in the late 1970s when the FBI established the Behavioral Science Unit, which resulted in the emergence of criminal profiling.

But when will we get to see the third season of Mindhunter? Who are the cast members we’ll be encountering in the upcoming series? What might be the expected storyline? The answer to these questions lies in this article. So stay tuned with us.

Release Date of Mindhunter season 3

Sadly, neither the show’s creators nor the streaming platform has set a specific premiere date for the third season. However, according to reports, David Fincher had a lengthy discussion with Netflix about the third season extension, which did not lead to a positive conclusion.

Regardless, they wrapped up their discussion and proceeded with their choice to continue working on the third season. So, based on our information, we can predict that Mindhunter Season 3 will premiere sometime at the end of 2022 or at the beginning of 2023.

The Cast of Mindhunter Season 3

We can expect our main cast to return for another season. It mainly consists of:

  • Jonathan Groff as Holden Ford
  • Holt McCallany as Bill Tench
  • Anna Torv as Wendy Carr
  • Michael Cerveris as Ted Gunn
  • Sonny Valicenti as Dennis Rader

What to Expect from the Plot of Mindhunter Season 3?

Season 2 of Mindhunter concluded with the culmination of the Atlanta murders, with Wayne Williams being indicted with two of the crimes. The rest of which is unresolved due to the absence of forensic evidence. Bill is frightened that his wife and child may be evicted from their home while he is still there.

The BTK murderer resumes his breath-taking actions in the concluding images of season 2’s last episode. Meanwhile, Holden is filled with a sense of self-doubt and despair as he continues to put closure on the family of the murdered.

As of the third season, it may begin with the investigation of the BTK killer. He might appear in flashes throughout the series. The third season will be able to go into greater depth about his case, including ten killings, mocking messages to the cops and media, and his subsequent arrest.
