Jon Jones Rips Chael Sonnen Over TRT Use On Twitter

The build up for the upcoming UFC 159 fight between Jon Jones and Chael Sonnen may be the strangest in UFC history. After staying mum in a recent face-to-face, Jones is now unleashing a character assault through Twitter, hitting Sonnen where it hurts…his credibility.

Jones and Sonnen had one of an odd confrontation at the recent The Ultimate Fighter 17 finale. Both fighters were interviewed next to each other with Sonnen doing all of the talking and the UFC light heavyweight champion saying nothing. It would appear now that Jones has broken his silence and rather than use a UFC broadcast to get out his message, has opted instead for Twitter.

“Take steroids in your prime testosterone levels drop then you take TRT to get in your prime again.. Maybe I should just join the team $$$” – @JonnyBones

Ouch! I’d say he is going below the belt but quite honestly he is just speaking the truth. Jones went even harder at Sonnen’s credibility when he posted a link to a video in on YouTube in which Chael tries to defend his PED test.

“Chael Sonnen talks about his steroid PED use: #poison #TheCheatersChampion #youcallthisgangster?” – @JonnyBones

Ironically Chael on his Twitter profile calls himself the “Godfather of integrity.” In a surprising twist, Chael never acknowledges Jones’ tweets. Now Chael could be busy but he is generally pretty quick at responding on Twitter to attacks from fellow UFC fighters.

Additionally, Jones accused Sonnen of doing steroids his entire career on UFC Tonight.

“People know that Chael Sonnen has done steroids throughout his whole career and that’s probably why his testosterone is low now. I don’t think that is the heart or the attitude of a champion, so that’s what I meant when I said he lacks champion’s soul.”

I don’t know what to make of Jones’ tweets. Is this a last ditch attempt to sell a fight that nobody is clamoring to see? The tweets are odd considering all of the nice things that Jones has had to say about Chael since they began filming The Ultimate Fighter 17 together. They even posed together for a Thanksgiving picture mocking their rivalry. Looking back at all of the complimentary things they have said about each other, I am not buying any kind of rivalry here no matter what Bones is tweeting.

The vibe I am getting on social media is that there is very little interest in this fight. It will be interesting to see what other tricks they try and pull out in an attempt to save this fight. Unfortunately they probably should have thought about manufacturing a rivalry a few months ago instead of the repeated praise of one another.

I don’t know about you but I’m not buying this grudge, TRT tweets or not. Although I will be watching Sonnen’s Twitter account for a response.
