It’s For Randy Orton to Own the WWE

If you are reading this column, you are excited. SummerSlam is hours away and the idea of four huge main events are dancing in your head. You feel the excitement as you proudly display your favorite wrestler on a t-shirt or you wear a John Cena ball cap.

You are in your element. SummerSlam is the second biggest pay-per-view of the year will live up to expectations.

It has to.

The WWE has everything to gain and everything to lose from this event. It has a chance to move forward with a new direction, a new face of the company and a change in the way we see this company.

And we all have a chance to see what happens with Randy Orton and the Money in the Bank contract, because whether we all know it or not, the wrestling world is about to revolve around a “Viper.”

The WWE will be a much more interesting place with Randy Orton at the top of the food chain. Now, the question becomes which side of the line will the new champion (I know there are a few things that have to happen before Orton grabs the gold), but the formality of changing titles is just that, a formality.

If you seriously think Orton isn’t walking out of Staples Center with the WWE Title and that John Cena is losing the title to Daniel Bryan before this all happens, then maybe we should listen to our good friend. The Road Dogg.

“Your ass better go call somebody.”

Looking at everything that has happened since the Money in the Bank pay-per-view, Orton has been the only consistent in the Daniel Bryan/John Cena feud. He is going to strike. He is making his presence known and he is the one who will walk out with either Vince McMahon or Triple H at the end of the night.

And yes, the WWE Title will be around his waist.

For years now, the IWC and the WWE Universe have been complaining about the “PG Era” and the lack of attitude by the company. We are seeing a new attitude now. We see a change in wrestlers. We see more of the old style that made wrestling elite. And having the McMahons back on the television screen can only make that better. Whether it is just Orton who makes this change complete remains to be seen.

I could see Wade Barrett join Orton and the “Corporation” with Vince. Add Sheamus to the group when he comes back in six months and you have a nice continuing story that will have legs through the start of 2014 when Sheamus returns for the Royal Rumble.

Foreshadowing is a good thing when it comes to professional wrestling.

The WWE is at its best when there is complete chaos. The McMahon clan helps make that happen. Storylines that make our jaws drop work as well. The John Cena/Daniel Bryan vignette from Monday night was some of the best dialogue we have seen in the company since CM Punk and Vince McMahon. This is almost as good as the “Summer of Punk.”

The “Summer of Orton” might be even better. But for that to happen, SuumerSlam must have a winner, have a serious “swerve,” and have something that can last for a while as it leaves us wanting more.

Few wrestlers are able to do that on a continual basis. Randy Orton is one who can make that all happen. After two years of not holding WWE gold, it is possible Orton will have the wrestling world on its knees – asking “The Viper” to strike some more.
