Essential Sprint HTC EVO Free Apps

HTC EvoIt has been over a month and I think I am ready to pledge my love to the HTC EVO. Sprint’s 4G phone has turned into an essential part of my life. I am discovering more Android apps by the day. Here are just a few of what I’d like to call my essential free Sprint HTC EVO apps.

I purposely stuck to the free apps. I think that while there are some really neat paid Android apps, there are plenty of free ones to give you what you need. Why pay $4.99 for something that you can get from another maker for free? So here are just a few free apps that you should go and download right now from your Android phone.

Battery Status Pro This is an essential utility app, especially on the HTC EVO. As much as I love my EVO, there is no denying that the battery life stinks. Battery Status Pro keeps you alert of how much battery life is left on the phone and breaks it down per task. Click the Time Remaining area and you can see how much life is left via percentage, Talktime on 2 or 3G, Internet Use, etc. There are a ton of other paid apps that do the same thing, but Battery Status Pro is the best free battery utility app that I have tried.

Advanced Task Killer Like Battery Status Pro, this app is essential to preserving your battery life. If there is one complaint I have about the HTC EVO it is that apps come on and off randomly without any specific reason. It is like the application has a mind of its own. Advanced Task Killer allows you to bring up a screen that shows every app you have running. You can then choose which ones you want to kill off. This app alone will save you hours of EVO battery life.

Pandora Radio Pandora Radio is just a killer music app. Once you download it you type in a band you like and you will instantly get a song featuring that band. Additionally, you will get similar music following the band. The stations do a great job of keeping the genres real narrow and on point. For example I typed in Slayer when I got mine. Once Slayer is done playing I will get another thrash band like Megadeth, Testament, Anthrax, etc. It is free and it is great.

A Online Radio I happened to discover A Online Radio by accident. It turned out to be a blessing in disguise. For iPod owners, it is almost identical to Ootunes Radio. Once you load up A Online Radio you pick a country and then search for a station. If it is online, chances are that A Online Radio has it. Whether it is a local sports radio station in your town or something that may appear on Shoutcast like a Sirius or Howard Stern stream, you will find it on A Online Radio. It is hands down the best music radio app on the market and it’s free!
