Geek Out! 2010 Holiday Gadgets and Electronics List for Men

Apple iPadIt is that time of year where grown men geek up and secretly hope that their favorite gadget or electronics make your holiday list. Sadly most men wake up disappointed to a shiny new tie or tool. But have no fear, just slip this list of top holiday gadgets into her purse and this year’s holiday could be your most fun ever.

Apple iPad This is an obvious one and arguably the most popular gadget or electronic on this year’s holiday list. Many wishful thinkers have held out purchasing this fantastic tablet in hopes that it would find its way into their laps this December. Buying an iPad won’t be easy but there are plenty of online shopping stores currently stocking the iPad. My best advice is to buy it ASAP because they probably won’t last long past Black Friday.

iTunes – Download, Manage and Enjoy music.

Apple iPhone 4 – Has any other company done a better job of dominating the holiday gadget wishlist this year than Apple? I don’t think so. The iPhone 4 was released earlier this year and is a superior upgrade from past iPhone models. The fourth generation iPhone is one of the most popular smartphones on the market so buying an iPhone 4 won’t be easy. Remember, an iPhone is no good without a plan. Make sure you buy a plan and activate the iPhone before you wrap up this beauty.

Xbox 360 black console – Microsoft released its new Xbox 360 earlier this year. The new Xbox is slick, fast, quieter, and a lot cheaper than the previous version. I wouldn’t worry too much about the Xbox 360 black running out of stock just yet. It is bound to be a popular gift but with so many people owning Xboxes already, I have a feeling that some loved ones will be hesitant to pull the trigger. If you are going to spend the money, you may as well spend a little more and buy an Xbox Kinect addon. The motion controllers are poised to give Nintendo Wii a run for the money in the near future.

Sprint HTC EVOThis shiny new Android smartphone has become one of the most popular cellular gadgets on the market. Sprint offers 4G service with the EVO which makes it a great device to watch videos and stream movies on. Like the iPhone, don’t disappoint him by ordering him an EVO without service. Make sure to register and activate it at a local Sprint store before handing the Android over to its new happy owner.

Samsung Galaxy Tablet – If your loved one is anti-Apple or you can’t find an iPad, buy a Samsung Galaxy tablet. The iPad vs. Galaxy is the best rivalry in electronics this season. This is turning out to be one of the hottest gadgets of 2010 so buying a Galaxy over an iPad is not exactly a bad compromise. The Galaxy runs on an Android operating system which offers a ton of comparable apps to the iPad apps.

Amazon Kindle – The Kindle is hot but it is currently far behind the iPad and Galaxy in popularity. The E Book reader doesn’t offer the same amount of versatile options that the other tablets do, but the price can’t be beat. Amazon Kindle prices are under $200 which includes WiFi and 3G as compared to an Apple iPad which can run you over $1,000. If your loved ones is looking for a light, compact, portable E Reader than the Kindle does the trick and saves you a lot of money.

Amazon Kindle Wireless Reading Device, Wi-Fi

Google TV – Google TV hasn’t taken off quite to the degree I expected but it is starting to gain momentum with the holiday. The Google televisions can run as low as $299 if you don’t have a Bluetooth player. The Google TV allows viewers to watch video from the Internet, surf the web, listen to music, view pictures, and a lot more. If you want to really “WOW” him buy him a Sony HDTV with Google TV built in.

SlingBox – I have been looking for an excuse to buy a SlingBox for awhile now, but working from home really doesn’t cut it. The SlingBox is one of the coolest gadgets on the market and continues to grow in popularity. In short, the SlingBox hooks up to your home television and allows users to connect to their television, cable boxes, etc online. So, if you stuck at work or can’t watch the big game all you have to do is connect to the web and you can start watching your television. Even cooler, SlingPlayer for Apple iPad was recently just announced which will allow users to do the same thing from the iPad through the app.

Sonos Music System – Howard Stern has been lobbying the greatness of the Sonos for years now. I finally gave it in and tried it and fell in love instantly. The Sonos s5 music system allows users to connect to their digital libraries or to their online radio platform like Sirius, XM, or Pandora and stream it all over the house. What I like even more is that you aren’t relegated to one thing playing once. If you have a party you can stream pop music from Pandora in the living room while streaming something else to your outside guests. Like the SlingBox there is an app for this with Apple devices. It isn’t cheap but hey, if you can’t find an iPad this makes a great substitute.

Buy a Sonos S5 Black

Sirirus/XM Radio – I have been a Sirius subscriber for five years and I couldn’t imagine driving anywhere without it. Compared to most gifts on this list, it is one of the least inexpensive electronic gifts on the list. Subscriber packages vary in price but are relatively inexpensive. Sirius/XM consoles also vary in price. However there are some specials out there that offer free consoles with a subscription. Even better is that most of these consoles are incredibly easy to install. For the price, you may as well buy a few for the whole family.
