Raptors Take On The Hawks Without Chris Bosh

Joe Johnson HawksOn Friday, the Toronto Raptors will head to Atlanta to take on the Atlanta Hawks at Philips Arena in Atlanta, Georgia. The Raptors are in a desperate race to hang on to the last playoff spot – and sportsbook cappers know the outlook got significantly worse this week.

On Tuesday, the Raptors’ scoring leader was put out of commission by an errant elbow from Cleveland Cavaliers forward Antawn Jamison. Bosh suffered a broken nose as a result of the unintentional hit and is out of the lineup for the remainder of the season following surgery. For Toronto, this couldn’t have come at a worse time. The team is deadlocked in a struggle with the Bulls for the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference. But things get worse.

On Wednesday, the Raptors played the Celtics, and their luck with injuries did not improve. Toronto forward Hedo Turkoglu suffered his own facial injury after taking an inadvertent head butt from Boston’s Tony Allen. Turkoglu is listed as day-to-day – fans of sports betting should note that he is not expected to play in Friday’s game against the Hawks. It is unclear whether he will return at all for the remaining regular season games. There’s still more.

Amir Johnson suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter following a collision with the Celtics’ Glen Davis. While he initially left the game, he returned to play the remainder. As the coup de grace, Jarrett Jack sprained his ankle. He is listed as day-to-day. Yes, fate has proven cruel to the Raptors this week.

Already facing a better team in Atlanta, the injury-laden Toronto trails the season series 2-1, and will ride a three game losing streak into the match up. The Raptors are 14-25 on the road, while the Hawks are 32-7 at home. The Raptors are a team beaten up. Not the kind of shape you want to be in, taking on the Hawks. Detroit however, showed that the Hawks can be exploited when they get lazy – can the Raptors defy the NBA odds?

Atlanta, for their part, have looked less than impressive as of late. The Hawks are .500 in their last ten games, and are riding their own losing streak into this game, after dropping their last two to Charlotte and Detroit, respectively. In Toronto, the Hawks have an opponent to regain some momentum and build some confidence. The Raptors are a weary team – beset by injuries, team morale is low. The Hawks thrive at home, and despite their lackluster performance as of late, they are clear NBA betting favorites against the Raptors. Atlanta can’t afford any more slip ups like the had against the Pistons. Detroit showed Atlanta what happens when you get lazy. With Boston nipping at their heels, the Hawks have to make the remaining games count.
