She may not have fought in over a year but Gina Carano is still the unquestionable face of women’s MMA. The Strikeforce fighter has a sexy photo spread in GQ promoting the movie Haywire and talking MMA.
It amazes me that even after getting battered in her last fight and not even fighting for over a year that Carano still remains the face of MMA. Quite frankly it is a huge slap in the face to Strikeforce champion Cristiane Cyborg who is arguably (I don’t even know if I’d call it arguably at this point) the greatest female MMA fighter the sport has ever seen.
Carano pulled out of her last fight for mysterious reasons. She was scheduled to fight on April 9 but did not pass medicals. Due to HIPPA laws it was up to her or her camp to disclose the reason why, yet her and her team stayed mum. Not even the crack assortment of MMA reporters could get the goods on this one. The rumor was pregnancy but that has been denied by everyone.
Carano is described in the piece of holding the equivalent of a master’s degree in punching, is surprisingly gentle. “I am not a violent person.” she insists, “I actually don’t like to hurt people.” So why do it? “I like fighting,” she says, “because it’s honest.”
The article and photo will appear in the January 2012 edition of GQ magazine. Gina Carano’s next Strikeforce fight continues to remain a mystery.
