Five Ways I Would Fix TNA Wrestling

There has been so much speculation over the last month or so over the future of TNA’s Impact! Wrestling, you really have no assurances that the niche promotion will be able to remain afloat for years to come.

This is not an issue of competition with the WWE, because while I think the smaller company does a better job of promoting matches and giving wrestling the “older” style we are used to with better vignettes, and better “wrestling” than the “Daddy” wrestling promotion that worries more on style than substance.

The company is in disarray, the financial situation must be addressed. There needs to be a moratorium on MMA stars trying to come in and make a name for themselves

I am not a general manager, but I’d love to play one. And when I say I’d love to work on fixing TNA, where the Impact Zone was only a stone’s throw from Jacksonville, I am as serious as a Floyd Mayweather left jab.

Here are a few things I would do to change this company and give it some energy and new life.

Get rid of the gimmick promotions

“Gut Check” and “Open Fight Night” don’t work for me. While open challenges are what make wrestling and build great rivalries, there are better ways to go about it. That is what a general manager or matchmaker is for.

Back in the day, the booker really played a role in making the matches, creating the script and building programs that worked.

Get Hulk Hogan off air

Once Eric Bischoff left the camera side of wrestling, I thought things would be better. But true to form, there isn’t a camera Hulk Hogan does not like. Twenty percent of Hogan goes a long way.

He should take what he has learned over the years about promotion (not self promotion) and use it effectively.

And please get Brooke Hogan off the camera as well and end the program with Bully Ray.

Addition by subtraction

The company cut ties with Matt Morgan, DOC and Tara – three pieces of the puzzle that could have been repackaged and used properly. Contract disputes led to Morgan and DOC’s departure, while money was the reason Tara was released.

The company also released Christian York, who was a good worker and could have been an X-Division star.

Why not get rid of Wes Brisco, Garett Bischoff, Joseph Parks (to have Abyss return) and someone like Robbie E and Jesse — who have no weight in the company? Get rid of Eric Young’s beard and make him the star he was.

And get ODB back in the ring full time.

Stable changes

Keep the Main Event Mafia and Aces and Eights Angle. Replace Rampage Jackson with Bobby Roode (face change). Bring back James Mitchell and a cast of characters (Abyss, Black Reign).

See if there is a way to package AJ Styles with Kazarian and Christopher Daniels again and take advantage of Hernandez and Chavo Guerrero.

More women

Ashley Massaro, Melina (maybe John Morrison comes with her) and Beth Phoenix would all look good in Florida.

So would Kharma and Kelly Kelly. Massaro, Kelly Kelly and Velvet Sky — the New Beautiful People. Enough said about that.

Make Magnus the face of this company

Tall, young, rangy and a great look. He is under 30 and can carry this company. It would be great to see what he can go against a Ken Anderson or Gunner.

There is still a strong Kurt Angle on the roster and James Storm and even Crimson if he were packaged again.

This is a company that just needs direction. I’d feel a lot better if Jeff Jarrett was totally running this show.
