Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups Week 10 2015-16

Current rumors have Maroon 5 slotted as the halftime show for Super Bowl 50. After spending yet another Monday reading about sprains, strains, and MRI’s I vote for Queen. Cue the music “Hey, I’m gonna get you too, another one bites the dust.” So it’s a predictable song choice, but I would argue that season ending injuries have become just as predictable. As usual injuries will fuel yet another waiver wire frenzy.

Couple of quick thoughts from the weekend. If I have said it once I have said it a hundred times. If you still have time left before the trade deadline, trade Peyton Manning. He was not terrible on Sunday but he isn’t a top 15 QB. He is still going to have good games and there are still people who love him, but he is mediocre in fantasy at best. He has thrown almost twice as many INT’s as he has TD’s. The Bronco’s defense is dominate, the Broncos QB is not.

[adinserter block=”1″]The Eagles are better than you think. I don’t care about the NFL rankings. I am sure there are some statistical support for where teams are ranked, but that doesn’t make it right. I love the Falcons but they have been overrated all season. The Eagles offense is slowly finding their way and the division is hurting. I suppose that it is anyone’s division but I believe that its Philly’s to lose. The Cowboys are not going to be able to climb out of the hole when Romo comes back, too bad. Expect the Pats to struggle a little out of the gate without Lewis, but they will adjust and like most, I expect them to be in San Jose come Feb.

With all that being said, how has your season been going? We are over the hump and it’s all downhill from here. The next couple of weeks and the next couple of moves could be the most important thus far. This week there are more than a couple of strong options.

Derek Carr, QB, Oakland Raiders- 17% Owned

He is within 5 points of being a top 10 QB and he is trending up. I have said it before, the Raiders have a pretty good team this season. Are they going to with the Super Bowl? Not a chance! Are they going to compete every week? Absolutely! In 3 games since the bye he has 11 TD’s vs 1 INT and averaging over 300 yards a game. Tough game against the Viking on the schedule but then there are 3 or 4 games against bad teams before they visit Denver. I would start Carr over several big name QB this week. Ride him while he is hot.

Jay Cutler, QB, Chicago Bears- 13% Owned

It is situations like this that make me wonder if anyone reads this. Cutler isn’t going to get you 20pts but he is going to get you 15-17 every single game. If he isn’t injured he might be the most consistent QB in fantasy. Don’t let his real life reputation discourage you from starting another guy out performing Peyton Manning. He is about as consistent as it gets. If you have good trade bait with a high profile QB, trade for value and get Cutler for free.

Kirk Cousins, QB, Washington Redskins- 8.8% Owned

If you pick up Cousins this week you could be walking into a perfect fantasy storm. The Saints have given up 10 TD’s and 0 interceptions over the last two games. They are bleeding fantasy points for QB’s. Cousins is ninth in the NFL in passing attempts, so you know he is going to put it up. They are getting no love from the run game, look to Cousins to let it fly. This one will be a shootout and Cousins is going to have go big or go home. High flying is the only to keep up with the Saints offense.

Karlos Williams, RB, Buffalo Bills- 41.5% Owned

Williams was averaging double digits until he went down before week 5. His first game back in the lineup and he goes for 110 yards and 2 scores. McCoy is banged up and they are looking at a short week. If McCoy can’t go Williams is an absolute must start. Even if Shady plays, Williams will still get his. His 110 yards came on only 9 carries. He has also been known to catch a pass from time to time.

James Starks, RB, Green Bay Packers- 40.5% Owned

Starks has moved himself into a split carry situation in GB. Well maybe Lacy underperforming also has a little to do with it. With Lacy banged up and struggling Starks is a good pick up this week. The downside is that the Lacy of old can show up at any moment, but Starks always seems to get opportunities. Packers are going be looking to make a statement following the embarrassing loss to the Panthers. If Williams isn’t available look to get Starks.

James White, RB, New England Patriots- 1.7% Owned

The question here is, do you like to gamble? White is an interesting choice this week following the season ending injury to Lewis. White is expected to pick up the slack on passing downs, which there are plenty of in NE. That opens him up for end zone looks. Most are looking to Bolden to step up and that can happen. Patriot’s backs are hard to predict, but if White gives them at advantage he will be on the field.

Nate Washington, WR, Houston Texans – 38.8% Owned

In just 2 games back from injuries Washington has been impressive to say the least. It is amazing to me that he is still available in over 60% of leagues. If you passed on him last week let’s look at the stats again. 13 catches for 201 yards and 3 TD’s. Hoyer is going to throw, they cannot run the ball. Oh and he is averaging just over 18 points a game in non-PPR leagues.

Kamar Aiken, WR, Baltimore Ravens- 28.7% Owned

This is simply addition by subtraction. With Smith going down for the season there are not too many options. Aiken put up a few fantasy points filling in for Smith earlier in the season. There is no reason to think that he can’t do it again. There is a tough road ahead but if the Ravens are going to fight for a playoff spot Aiken is going to have to carry some of that load. He is going to get his targets and if he finds the end zone he is money.

[adinserter block=”2″]Brandon Lafell, WR, New England Patriots- 56.6% Owned

Lafell finally broke out a bit in week 9. Totally different receiver than the one who dropped 80% of his targets in week 7. 5 catches for 105 yards is not a bad stat line. Most defenses are going to be focusing on Gronk and Edelman which means Lafell is going to get a lot of one on one. He can move down the field and gives them legit deep threat. Like most Pats WR’s he could be hit or miss. However, if he hits, it could be the difference between a win and loss.

Richard Rodgers, TE, Green Bay Packers- 26.6% Owned

Rodgers had 5 catches and 2 TD’s in Sunday’s loss the Carolina. Rodgers play might be the lone bright spot and could be a good sign going forward. Rodgers gets his targets in short yardages and has managed to find the end zone four times this season. Packers are looking to get back on track, maybe Rodgers has shown enough to be bigger part of the plan moving going forward.

Vernon Davis, TE, Denver Broncos- 54.9% Owned

You don’t find too many players on this list after putting up a huge goose egg. I will be the first to admit that the hype around Davis was just that, hype. However we did see Manning take a huge shot down field in his direction. He looked like he was moving fine and the Broncos are in desperate need to a TE to fill Julius Thomas’s shoes. Davis should find his footing this week and with Manning’s arm not nearly what it used to be, Davis is a tempting short yardage option.
