Emelianenko and Werdum Face Off On June 26th

Fedor vs. Fabrico" hspace=The June 26th Strikeforce event is shaping up to be a momentous occasion as Strikeforce MMA combines with the Holland-based M-1 Global to bring some of the best mixed martial artists in the world together to face off inside the cage.

This event bounds to be one for the record books not just because Strikeforce MMA and M-1 Global are coming together but because the main event puts together two of the top heavyweights in the world in a showdown for the heavyweight title in the sport.  The main event has part owner of M-1 Global and one of the best fighters in the world, Fedor Emelianenko, taking on the wild Fabricio Werdum in a heavyweight match that will show who is the most dominant force in mixed martial arts.

“The Last Emperor” Fedor Emelianenko is considered by most to be the greatest fighter in the world of MMA, and is arguably unblemished as far as his record is concerned. Sure, Emelianenko is 31-1 but the one loss came not from Fedor being taken down, but rather when he received a medical disqualification after a gash opened up above his eye in a fight with Tsuyoshi Kohsaka. However, records don’t matter to “The Last Emperor.” He believes that he’s the best in the world and plans on proving it when he’s in the cage.

However, it’s important to understand that Emelianenko isn’t going to have a nice walk in the park when he defends his heavyweight title. The Last Emperor will be facing off against one of the best fighters in the sport, and Fabricio Werdum plans on putting on a show of what he’s capable of. “Vai Cavalo” or “Leading Horse” is what Werdum is known by and that speaks to the nature of his free and wild energy in the caged ring. The brazen force that Werdum embodies will have to be tamed if Emelianenko wants to make it out of the ring as reigning champ.

The June 26th event will not be a one-match affair however. There are plenty of other great matches that night that are bound to make the Strikeforce MMA/M-1 Global a full time event. A particularly exciting match will be when Cris “Cyborg” Santos takes on Jan Finney (who is nicknamed “Cuddles” but don’t let that nickname fool you). Even if Cyborg makes quick work of Finney, it’ll still be a great match to watch and “Cyborg” Santos always puts on a show:

The M-1 Global/Strikeforce event has some of the best male and female fighters in the world, which should make it a memorable evening not just for the fighters and fans, but for all of MMA.
