WWE Rey Misterio: Biggest Little Man – DVD Review

It is rare that I get excited about a pro wrestling DVD these days. That has changed with the release of WWE Rey Misterio: Biggest Little man. This is one of the few WWE DVDs that I would recommend going out of your way to buy. Just like his matches, Rey Mysterio provides the action from start to finish in this great compilation.

Sometimes the guys in charge of picking matches for DVDs get it wrong. On the WWE Rey Mysterio DVD they got it all right and then some. This is without a doubt the greatest compilation from top to bottom of matches I have ever seen on a DVD which includes Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Chris Benoit, Mick Foley, and Ric Flair.

Fans only familiar with the Rey Mysterio that they have seen in the WWE have no idea about the true talents of this legend. Yes, Rey Mysterio is a legend who has influenced the new breed of high-flyers similar to the way Shawn Michaels influenced the generation of Hardy Boys, Christian, Edge, and others.

The lineage of Rey Mysterio goes back to his days as a struggling wrestler in Mexico. The DVD highlights one of Rey’s greatest matches from Mexico which took place on the AAA When World Collide pay-per-view. Fans will be astonished at the risks that Mysterio would take during this era of pro wrestling.

Rey’s first rise to national prominence came through Extreme Championship Wrestling. It would be Rey’s classics and I do mean classics with Juventud Guerrera and Psicosis that easily hold up today to the test of time.

Rey’s career in WCW was not always one that will be remembered. In between some of the ridiculous ways Rey was booked, Rey would routinely steal the show. Arguably the greatest WCW match of all-time is included which pits Rey against his long time rival, Eddie Guerrero from Halloween Havoc as well as numerous other matches with Eddie, Psicosis, Juventud, Chris Jericho, and others. It is amazing in looking back as to what WCW had at one point in time and the way they never truly exploited it to their benefits.

Rey’s career in the WWE has been one of fun, excitement, and even surprise. Most critics didn’t give Rey much of a chance going into the WWE. Rey had everything against him. Rey was a high-flyer, wore a mask, was way below average in height, and was in WCW. Any one of those attributes would have been enough to bury someone else. Not Rey Mysterio.

Rey’s WWE career is brilliantly chronicled on this three-disc set. Rey’s series against Kurt Angle is one of the most underrated series of matches in my opinion of the last several years. Several of Rey’s matches with Kurt Angle are captured on this set.

Some rarities include the only one on one match from Raw between Rey and Shawn Michaels from the Eddie Guerrero Tribute Show, Rey vs. Matt Hardy, JBL, several Chavo Guerrero matches, and more.

The set comes out a perfect time just before the holiday season. Overall the set clocks in at nine hours of Rey Mysterio which is more than a bargain. I can’t imagine any wrestling fan not being thrilled with the hours of excitement they will get from this set.
