Dusty Rhodes, AJ Styles and Other Wrestling Thoughts

There was something exceptional about Goldust returning to the ring on Monday night when he faced Randy Orton with the contract of younger brother Cody on the line.

[adinserter block=”1″]The WWE is using the Rhodes storyline as a lengthy part of the new hardline of “Attitude” centered around Triple H and Orton.

While the Cody Rhodes “firing” was a stroke of genius (although it killed the Damien Sandow storyline), and seeing big brother Dustin in the ring again with the flare and style he has shown over the years, the story being told may now go a bit too far.

There are rumors all over the Internet about Rhodes making a comeback to television as part of the storyline. And from the sound of dialogue the McMahon clan has had with both Cody and Dustin, it would appear this will happen very soon.

Please say it ain’t so. I can however, although not that I like the idea, see Rhodes in the ring or in some form of vignette with Triple H or Vince McMahon at Night of Champions over the firing of his boy.

I like the possibly tie-in to the new regime angle, but Dusty is not a man would is understood well by many any more and the thought of him maybe being in the ring in polka dots is a scary thought.

If Cody were to make a return to the ring somehow at Night of Champions, that might be a better scenario than having Daddy Rhodes fight his son’s battles.

Here are some other thoughts I have on wrestling this week…

Is Booker T jumping ship?

Is Booker T’s role in the new storyline of the Corporation the Voice of Reason, or are we about to see a heel turn.

No, I cannot dig that, sucka!

Booker T, of all WWE superstars should be ready to jump ship, to turn the tide and face Triple H and the McMahon’s head on. He should want to get even after losing the general manager job to Vickie Guerrero.

And while Big Show keeping his cool may be “good for business,” the impression I get about Booker T is that he is a mole in this entire role.

What will Edge do Friday?

There has to be more to the Edge storyline than what happened on Monday.

The vignette with Daniel Bryan was a little slow and deliberate, but when was the last time we saw Edge so animated? I loved the segment and judging by the Twitter accounts, so did the fans.

Edge gave the program an “edge” and made it more real. If I did not know any better, I would have thought he and Triple H really did not like each other. The spot was dead on and when Christian was added for dramatic emphasis, it just made me want more.

Friday night should be interesting because what else can happen? I figure Randy Orton and Christian square off with Edge at ringside and The Shield holds Edge off while Orton pummels Captain Charisma.

Final Four of BFG

Thursday night will be redemption night for AJ Styles.

As the final four in the Bound For Glory Series square off, pitting Styles with Austin Aries, there could not have been a better scenario than the one written for this final showdown.

[adinserter block=”2″]Styles and Aries is worth the price of admission alone, but to have the second match featuring Magnus and Bobby Roode is just exceptional.

I don’t say it enough, but TNA knows how to write matches and programs better than the WWE. While not everything is executed like the larger WWE, Styles is the one thing people want to see and see him take on Bully Ray for the TNA World Title.

I also think Ken Anderson turning on Bully Ray last week and challenging him for the title is the beginning of the end of the Aces and Eights angle with Bully Ray and Tito Ortiz going out on their own.

  1. Bully Ray vs Anderson = finger poke of doom sorry this is a DUD
Styles vs Aries – Styles will win an excellent match
Magnus vs Roode magnus gets the win Note Roode won Year 1 of BFG and all he got was a lump of coal at BFG
When they have Styles vs Magnus – My choice is Magnus neither wrestler is a draw in San Diego but Magnus is the MEM and that should mean something.

Note: Saw Impact on the Spike TV website production was cleaned up and I enjoyed as Hogan said Spike TV was not in my hotel room.
