Dana White Talks Brock Lesnar Returning To The UFC

Dana White Brock LesnarAs fun as it is to talk about Brock Lesnar returning to the UFC, the reality may be much different. UFC president Dana White met with Brock Lesnar at UFC 146 and according to the head honcho it is not very likely to happen.

I must admit that I am fascinated by this whole Brock Lesnar story. The idea that Brock would retire from the UFC, sign with the WWE for $5 million for one year, lose in his very first WWE match, and then show up at UFC 146 looking to come back is what makes blogging fun. I will speculate just like everyone else but at the end of the day this all just seems like a guy playing games and having a little fun.

There has been a lot of speculation about the meeting between Dana White and Brock Lesnar at UFC 146, yet neither man has talked publicly about it…until now. Dana White was asked about the meeting on Friday during the UFC on FX 3 appearances and needless to say he is not a big fan of Brock Lesnar right now. Dana addressed the meeting on the UFC on FX post show.

The meeting we had didn’t really go very well. It wasn’t a great meeting. It was probably one of the worst meetings we’ve ever had with Brock Lesnar. I honestly have not talked to him since, so I don’t know where we are at. All the stuff you are seeing on the Internet is typical Internet bullsh*t. I don’t know. It was really bad. It was the worst meeting I’ve ever had with Brock Lesnar. In my opinion, it couldn’t have gone worse.

White also talked directly to about the meeting and reiterated his frustrations. “The meeting did not go well. Probably the worst meeting we’ve ever had with Brock Lesnar, and I haven’t talked to him since.” White wouldn’t get into the specifics, “It’s one of those things (where) it’s not worth getting into it publicly,” he said. “It’s not worth getting into the B.S. over it.

This goes against what MMA reporter Mike Sawyer tweeted earlier in the week that got MMA and some WWE fans into a frenzy.

Had an interesting conversation with someone VERY close to all the Brock Lesnar stuff. He is fighting THIS YEAR in UFC & not Frank Mir…

Ironically it would appear that Brock may have done more damage to himself playing these games than helping his cause. Vince McMahon is reportedly furious with Lesnar for appearing at UFC and meeting with Dana White and now White is considering closing the door on Lesnar after the meeting. Brock’s deal with the WWE could be up before April 2013 if they exercise all of their dates on him. If this was all meant to be used as negotiating leverage for a new contract, it may have blown up in his face.

I did find it funny how the MMA media ran with Sawyer’s tweet like it was gospel. When I worked in the pro wrestling business it was very easy to plant stories in the media whether you were planting them yourself or trying to stir something up through someone else. When I saw this the first thing I thought is that Brock’s camp planted this story to get people talking. I don’t know that to be true but you really have to read between the lines when it comes to “someone very close” giving a “scoop.” With all due respect to Sawyer my b.s. meter went off immediately.

As for Dana White, I don’t believe a word that comes out of that guy’s mouth. He has lied more to the media than almost anyone I can remember in sports. No matter what White says now, Brock was the biggest drawing card in UFC history. With fighters dropping like flies to injury and dozens of live events on the horizon, there is no way that White would ever close the door on Brock sans him signing with M1 Global. For all we know White could just be protecting himself from any contract tampering issues since Brock is under a WWE deal. Quite frankly it would not shock me if there was an agreement in place and White is just playing his own game of C.Y.A.

For a guy that has only wrestled once this year and hasn’t fought since December, Brock Lesnar continues to be the most interesting man in the UFC and WWE.
