The battle for Texas supremacy in the NFL in Week 3 of this season is a tale of two teams who’s seasons have started in the opposite direction. The Texans come in to the game as the darlings of the league, with a 2-0 start behind a throttling of the defending AFC champion Colts, followed by a thrilling come from behind win on the road against Washington.
Meanwhile, Dallas is in a tail spin, losing to the aforementioned Redskins in Week 1, on a holding penalty that negated a game winning touchdown. The Boys were then upset by the Chicago Bears in week two in Dallas in a game that they were heavily favored. This is a must win for Dallas, and Houston wants to keep it rolling, making this one of the more interesting games of Week 3.
NFL Betting: Dallas Cowboys @ Houston Texans
Online betting odds: Houston -2.5, 47.5 total
Why To Bet On The Cowboys
The key words for the game on both sides is going to be one word. For Dallas, it is desperation. The Cowboys were dreaming of a Super Bowl inside of their home stadium. Now, they are dreaming of at least getting on the board. The offense, and especially coordinator Jason Garrett have been heavily criticized for not pounding the run, when they have three quality backs. Relying on the pass has not let Dallas win any games yet, but the Texans pass defense is suspect. Peyton Manning and Donovan McNabb both had huge days against them, though they were unable to win. The Cowboys have plenty of weapons in the air, and simply need this victory. That alone may be reason to take them in this game.
The keyword for the Texans is momentum. At times in the NFL, momentum can be everything and the Texans have a ton of it. Starting 3-0 for the first time in franchise history would put a ton of heat on the rest of their division. Emotions couldn’t be higher for the team following that comeback against Washington, and it will show in the home crowd. The Cowboys are desperate to win, the Texans are desperate to prove they are a true Super Bowl contender. They have plenty of weapons on offense to score with Dallas, and they do have a good enough pass rush that will force Romo into some quick decisions, which sometimes turn into hasty ones.
How the Game Will Play Out
The square play here seems to be to ride the wave and take the Texans. Many “sharp” bettors will tend to go against the perceived public play. A lot of times it is the right move, but I do not feel as if this is one of them. The Texans should rock and roll in front of their home crowd, as they continue their rise a top the NFL. Dallas is not going to be down and out, but this game is a tough order for an 0-2 team heading on the road into what is sure to be a hostile atmosphere. These two teams played in the preseason, and the Houston first team offense and defense both dominated both sides of the ball. Yes, all the cards are not being shown in the pre season, but it has to be worth something. The Texans should win this game, regardless of what sharps think or not. I would also take into high consideration the game going over the total of 47.5
