The Awesome CM Punk “Shoot” Promo Video

The CM Punk Shoot Promo VideoUnless you have been living under a rock this week, you have probably heard about the awesome CM Punk “shoot” promo from RAW Roulette. After some censoring and editing, the WWE has finally made the video of the promo available on You Tube and

The WWE does a great job of uploading all of the matches and angles from their broadcasts to You Tube fairly quickly following the shows. That is why I was surprised to see everything from RAW on You Tube Tuesday except the now infamous CM Punk promo. Thanks to a tweet from Joey Styles, I was alerted that the promo is now available online.

I can certainly understand why the promo wasn’t on You Tube or the WWE website on Tuesday. If the whole idea was to believe that the WWE had suspended Punk over the promo, why would they make it available? At the same time this is a business and you are really just shooting (no pun intended) yourself in the foot by burying the key moment in building your upcoming WWE Money in the Bank 2011 event.

[adinserter block=”2″]Even still, it isn’t that cut and dry. There is a censored version of the promo that is available on while the uncensored version is on You Tube. However, the promo is still not available on the WWE Fan Nation channel. The video is posted by a “user.” Mysteriously that “user” only has 1 video (this one) and was promoted by Joey Styles on Twitter. Believe me. The WWE is not in the business of promoting videos that infringe on their copyright from random users.

In case you missed it, (yes that Heyman) transcribed the promo.

John Cena, while you lay there, hopefully as uncomfortable as you possibly can be, I want you to listen to me.
I want you to digest this because before I leave in 3 weeks with your WWE Championship, I have a lot of things I want to get off my chest.

I don’t hate you, John. I don’t even dislike you. I do like you. I like you a hell of a lot more than I like most people in the back.

I hate this idea that you’re the best. Because you’re not. I’m the best. I’m the best in the world. There’s one thing you’re better at than I am and that’s kissing Vince McMahon’s ass.

You’re as good as kissing Vince McMahon’s ass as Hulk Hogan was. I don’t know if you’re as good as Dwayne though. He’s a pretty good ass kisser. Always was and still is.

Whoops! I’m breaking the fourth wall! (Punk waves to the camera)

[adinserter block=”1″]Ironically the WWE pulled a video they had up on their channel and website yesterday of Punk singing the song “Chicago” from the RAW tapings. My hunch is that it had more to do with paying royalties for the song than staying true to the storyline but either way, it mysteriously disappeared 24 hours after it was posted by the company.

I have seen a few reports that stated Punk’s promo was completely improvised and never approved through the office. I don’t believe that for a second. The promo was timed perfectly to get the key points in there before RAW went dark and that was no accident. I think in our fantasy world of wanting to believe this was a shoot that we would love to believe that story to be true. However, I don’t buy it for a minute.

Regardless enjoy the promo and watch it as soon as you can. At this rate the thing could be pulled off You Tube before you know it.

  1. So if the CM Punk "promo" was only a scripted shoot then why did he said such negitive things about Vince Steph & HHH as well as using the word D*&$ Bag which was bleeped ? Also Punk said several times the word "Wrestler" & "Wrestling" which I thought were no longer allowed to be said since Vince changed the brand from World Wrestling Entertainment to simply WWE. & from what I read was not supposed to be mentioned on air anymore…Just wondering is all.

    • I think you are looking at an organization that knows they are losing buyrates and ratings and are willing to take a chance to turn that around. Besides everyone says negative things about Vince McMahon during their WWE career, and when his daughter was on TV all the time she was constantly trashed as well. Letting himself and his family get trashed is almost his MO if you look back over the years. The ROH stuff is more shocking but still not shocking enough to make me believe. This was just a brilliant work of art from a master of his craft, and nothing more.

      • Yeah, if he was shooting from the hip he would have 100 percent, definitely, if I'm wrong slap my momma in the face, mentioned big, bad TNA. Come on, Vince. You know Dixie and Co. are not even in your league. It goes you, a Ma and Pop company with a television slot, a company with kind of a television spot, and all the Indys across the world.

  2. I love the comment that you posted about Shane Douglas saying that if it's on TV, it's not a shoot. The one that still has me at odds is the WCW match between Hogan and Jarrett. Russo told Jarrett to lay down, Hogan looked on in disbelief and said something like "this crap is the reason this company's in the toilet!"

The reason I remain skeptical is because at the time, WCW was really feeling the crunch of failing ratings, which probably was kind of a soft spot with the employees and not readily known to the public. Also, this incident has been chronicled in DVD releases and other nostalgic media. Your thoughts?
