CM Punk Feels Handcuffed Vs. The Undertaker At WrestleMania 29

CM Punk has never been known for playing the company line in media interviews. But his latest interview regarding his WrestleMania 29 match with The Undertaker is a bit surprising. Punk tells that he feels handcuffed in his match and isn’t that happy with the angle.

[adinserter block=”1″]It isn’t that big of a secret that Punk is unhappy with his role in WrestleMania 29. Check out Twitter over the last couple of weeks on RAW when Punk is on. Most observers in and out of the pro wrestling business all seem to remark that Punk’s promos aren’t nearly as spirited as usual. One former WWE star remarked on Monday night that Punk is talking like “he’s doing the job.” Well it would appear everyone is right and CM Punk is not a happy man.

Punk talked about the match with The Undertaker to Punk expects a great match but is quick to tell you that he needs help with this opponent.

“I expect the best from myself, no more no less,” he said. “I don’t know what anybody else expects from this match given [Undertaker’s] year away from the ring and possibly his physical condition. Or the fact that I don’t have a Hell in a Cell or all these different kinds of stipulations, like No Disqualification, to work with. But I like it when they handcuff me.”

Wow! I am not saying he is wrong but I think that is a huge slap in the face and a big sign of disrespect to The Undertaker. He may be right but to bring it up in the media is a whole other story. I don’t know what their relationship is today but they certainly had heat a few years back. It is no surprise after seeing this quote that Punk is reportedly at odds with WWE Creative and is not even booked on Extreme Rules following WrestleMania.

Punk does go on to say that he expects a great match, but is also quick to tell you that it won’t be at the level of The Undertaker’s last few Mania bouts with Shawn Michaels and Triple H. Punk also says in the interview that he wouldn’t want to see the streak broken. He’s doing a heck of a job selling his match.

I read this and immediately thought of a recent interview with Chris Jericho. Jericho was recently asked about wrestling Fandango at WrestleMania. Jericho said that he was upset at first when the match was booked but then looked at it as a challenge. Jericho said that he was confident he could have a good match with Fandango and was actually looking forward to it. Quite different than telling the media that he is going into the match handcuffed.

[adinserter block=”2″]Let’s be honest. The Undertaker is not nearly what he was. He looked old and hobbled just walking down the ramp on Monday night. At the same time he deserves a little more respect than his opponent telling the media that he is handcuffed wrestling him.

  1. The fact remains that the Undertaker is doing nobody no favours by wrestling once a year at Wrestlemania. It is lame and contrived. CM Punk is having the run of his career and WM should have seen the culmination of his "434 days" and "respect" storyline, it should have been the topping of the Cena – Punk, Rock – Cena and Punk – Rock feud in a three way. That would have been logical and interesting. Right now we have the OMG "streak" on the line. The only good conclusion to this feud would be for Punk to win and break the Streak.

CM Punk is a carny, and he brings the heat big time ala Memphis Heat. He is just carrying on the tradition set by Gorgeous George. He is an awesome Heel, and by saying all this he is also creating "shoot heat" for the smarks, while his antics on Raw draw the marks into the feud. He really knows how to work the modern wrestling audience.

  2. Im sorry, but i agree compeltly with Punk..He carried the company for over a year..was put in a watch when UT finally decided that he wanted to work the show, and was given 3 weeks to build a angle. UT is, in my opinion, is the 1st or 2nd best wrestler of all time, but he's broken down the only reason last year was so good because of HITC…Punk should be in the title match..he knows it and hes speaking his mind about it..

  3. Wouldn't it be nice if Undertaker grabbed CM Punk by the ear and give him a tongue lashing in front of the rest of the boys in the locker room, like the spoiled little brat that he is? Wouldn't that be doing a service to the entire wrestling industry? CM Punk is a decent wrestler. No more no less. He has the look and repertoire of a midcarder. He is a great promo but the guy is allowed all the freedom in the world to say what he wants unlike all the other young wrestlers and he would struggle to keep anyone invested in this feud if it wasn't for all the cheap, cheap heat he is garnering off the back of Paul Bearer's death. But then again, CM Punk is the all-time master of cheap heat. CM Punk doesn't belong in the same ring as Undertaker at WM. He should be thankful for this opportunity to follow in real main-eventers footsteps but instead he is bitching, pissing and whining about it. Cut him loose. People care more about Brock Lesnar, The Rock, John Cena and HHH anyway.

    • I hate to disagree with you CM Punk is an excellent WWE superstar his mic and ring skills are amazing. A midcard talent that gets pushed big time is always exposed as nothing but a midcarder. When Punk is on noones picks up their remote to fast forward or turn the channel. Plus when has WWE steered away from controversy. CM Punk have given the WWE a license to make money especially since the WWE is so watered down now.

  4. CM Puny unhappy? The HELL you say. This is quickly becoming a PR disaster and a perfect cap to a wrestlemania that is wholly underwhelming so far. It's a little outrageous that the guys don't like the part-timers coming in yet CM Punk is constantly putting out this line that he wants to fight Stone Cold, an equally hobbled wrestler.

I hate to say it but the constant reports of punk being burnt out and desperately needing time off really prove how much john cena pulls the company along, sheesh.
