Carolina Panthers Score On Trick Play From Little Giants Movie

ChudrooskiDid you ever wonder where some of these crazy gadget plays you see in the NFL or college come from? Well after close scrutiny it appears that an exciting TD run this past Sunday by the Carolina Panthers came directly from the movie Little Giants.

Whether you use Cam Newton in Fantasy Football or are just an NFL fan, it is hard not to enjoy what the Carolina Panthers are doing on offense. Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski is making a name for himself this season with the innovative high powered offense he has installed in Carolina. His latest creation is one that will have most people laughing…unless of course you are a member of the Houston Texans defense.

The Houston Chronicle has a great piece looking at Carolina Panthers FB Richie Brockel’s touchdown run late in the second quarter Sunday against the Houston Texans. The run was one of the greatest fakes I have ever seen in NFL history. It was so good, it came straight from Hollywood. The title of the piece says it all.

Texans fell for a trick play from a kids movie

The play saw Cam Newton beautifully fake a run to the right which the Texans bought hook, line, and sinker while fullback Richie Brockell held the ball and ran it in the opposite direction for 7 yards into the end zone with no defenders looking his way. A terrific play that is now being called the “Chudrooski” in Carolina.

According to several articles, Ron Rivera brought the play over with him from San Diego. Regardless, the origin comes from the Little Giants flick.

Nick Matthews describes the play. “The latest twist was borrowing a hidden-ball trick very loosely adapted from a play called “the annexation of Puerto Rico” from the 1994 movie the Little Giants.”

I have never been a big Panthers fan but you have to admit that Cam Newton and the Panthers have made for a fun NFL season. Not bad one NFL analyst named Terry heavily criticized this past September.

Just because you need a quarterback doesn’t mean you go out and draft one. I actually like Jake Locker down in Tennessee, Christian Ponder in Minnesota and Blaine Gabbert down in Jacksonville. These young kids, as far as I’m concerned, are far ahead of Newton as far as being an NFL quarterback.”

Well nobody ever accused Terry Bradshaw of being smart now have they?
