California: 1 Dead, 5 Injured in Laguna Woods Church Shooting

An unfortunate incident came to light on 15th May 2022 which resulted in the death of one person and several injured. The incident occurred in Laguna Woods’ Chruch in California, wherein a mass shooter opened fire in Luncheon. The draconian incident was stopped by a group of Orange County churchgoers who held him captive with an extension cord until officials arrived at the Laguna Woods church.

The Orange County Sheriff’s department also revealed that out of the five people injured in the firing, four are critically injured and are in serious condition. On the other hand, one of the persons was minorly injured. The incident has shaken the country and the area in general. Not only this but it has also created a sense of stability in the minds of the localities.

The injured persons were immediately rushed to the nearby hospital and all the necessary medical aid was provided to them. Simultaneously, the OC Sheriff was also giving timely updates on their official Twitter handle.

In one of the updates tweeted by them, it said “At 1:26 p.m., dispatch received a call of a shooting inside Geneva Presbyterian Church. Four people were badly injured, while one received moderate injuries. All of the casualties are adults, and they are on their way to the hospital. One of the victims died on the spot.”

The Sheriff’s Department also revealed shocking and unfortunate news that all the victims shot were mostly old people above the age of 60 years and hence their recovery process is slower than usual. The victims shot were 66, 75, 82, 86, and 92 years old, hence making them difficult to cope with because of other age-related issues.

According to NBCLA, one woman went to the shooting scene to find her 92-year-old father and mother. Her father was grazed by a bullet and transported to the hospital, but she hasn’t heard anything about her mother. Two of the wounded were transferred to Providence Mission Hospital, the hospital said.

Two people with gunshot wounds were admitted to Providence Mission Hospital in Mission Viejo, Calif., on Sunday, May 15. “The hospital is forwarding all queries about the event to the Orange County Sheriff’s Department due to the ongoing investigation. Providence Mission Hospital’s Trauma Center is South Orange County’s sole Level II trauma center.”

The 92-year-old man and two others were sent to Orange County Global Medical Center. The gunshot happened at 1:26 p.m. near 24301 El Toro Road. The OCSD stated churchgoers hog-tied the suspect’s legs with an extension cord before rescuing injured parishioners. “They undoubtedly saved lives,” authorities claimed. The gunman is in his 60s, police sources informed.

According to accounts, he is of Asian descent and may have targeted Asian worshippers. They cautioned that the investigation is preliminary. They haven’t found a motive. Sources said no further suspects are known. After the incident, the OCSD recovered a gun that may have been used. At least one firearm was seized, police sources told.
