Bully Ray is not someone you hear do many interviews so when he does sit down with a live microphone, it is always interesting. The TNA Wrestling champion doesn’t mince words which is what makes this latest 45 minute interview a must-watch.
Bully of course had a legendary run as half of the Dudley Boys tag team with brother Devon. If there is one thing I hear often about the team it is that they came ten years too late. Rosenberg asked the former WWE, WCW, ECW, and TNA tag team champion the same question who responded with a story about sitting at a bar one night with The Undertaker.
Bully tells a story about sitting at a bar with The Undertaker and a high compliment the Dead Man paid about the Dudley Boys tag team. “Bubba, you and Devon came ten years too late. You and Devon belong back then.”
I kind of agree with that although I think what was great about the Dudleys is that they were innovators in their own era. As great as they were, I think they had more impact in their ECW and WWE runs than they would have had in the 1980s. Of course this is all a matter of opinion.
One of the things that Bully does so well is get booed. It is almost impossible for a heel to get over today like a heel would in past eras. Bully is an exception and he was asked if it was hard to be a heel in 2013?
“No. Honestly I cannot say the same things in 2013 that I was saying in 1996, 97, 98, that time no. But I do believe that I have something unique to my speaking ability that makes people hate me. That’s my tone. My voice comes across like sandpaper. I know how to say things and certain trigger words that get under people’s skin.”
The interview went in another direction and Rosenberg started talking about some WWE topics. Bully was asked about the Mark Henry angle and Bully is just as much a fan of it as most of us were.
“To do what he did that other night, take those people down an emotional roller coaster , he brought them to such a level where they were crying for him, they were so into him, they were so respectful to him, “Oh my God Mark we want to send you off with open arms and give you a big hug and we love you so much thank you for busting you’re a$% for us”, and then he shoved it straight up their a$$es.”
Finally Bully was asked about Rob Van Dam coming back to the WWE. Bully gave an interesting answer as he and Rosenberg discussed how Rob fit it into the WWE today in a more structured environment than he was used to. Bully is excited to see him back.
These are just highlights of a fantastic interview. Bully goes into great depth about his run in ECW, how he got into ECW, Paul Heyman, the fan riots in ECW, working with Hulk Hogan, putting Mae Young through a table, and a lot more.
