Brock Lesnar Is Awesome

It is rare that I get giddy about anything in the WWE like I used to as a kid. Brock Lesnar is that one exception. It’s been almost a year since he returned and the man continues to be the best attraction in the business!

[adinserter block=”1″]Seeing Brock Lesnar walk out on RAW these last two weeks and take out Vince McMahon and The Miz have been some of the most exciting RAW moments of recent memory. There is just something about the way his music hits, the way he walks to the ring, the way he gets inside of the ring that exudes intensity. I can’t think of any modern day heel in pro wrestling to come even close to connecting on those emotions.

Remember back almost a year ago when some pro wrestling journalists went as far as to put up an image of burning money on their website after Brock lost to Cena? I wrote a blog at the time blasting those critics for overreacting to one loss. I also said it would be awhile before we find out who was right and who was wrong about those ramifications. Ladies and gentleman allow me to bask in the glory of victory because as I sit here almost a year later, Brock is just as big of a draw today as he was before Extreme Rules 2012.

The proof for me was this past week’s RAW rating. I am not one of those bloggers that watches every segment of the ratings or even cares too much about those numbers. I’ll save those blogs for someone else. At the same time it is hard to ignore what happened last Monday night. In the midst of WrestleMania 29 season without The Rock, RAW scored a home run in the ratings. Brock was the game changer!

The show did a 3.54 rating and was watched by 4.80 million viewers. A deeper look at the segment by segment ratings for the RAW show indicates that Brock is not only a beast, but a boost. The segment with The Miz, Paul Heyman, Vickie Guerrero, and Brock was the highest of the show. The segment gained 600,000 viewers and did a 3.82 quarter. All the gains were reportedly males 18-49. Do you think those dudes tuned in to see The Miz?

There is something to be said about the way that the WWE has used Brock. Using Brock sparingly over the last year has paid off huge. While Brock is close to a year into his deal, wrestling fans still get excited to see him. Wrestling fans still see him as something special, an outsider of sorts, which is funny in a way since he has been with the company for ten months. You’d think Brock has wrestled more than twice but nope, only two matches and a handful of appearances in ten months. I highly doubt as great as Brock is that he’d have this kind of impact in ten months if he was regular.

Brock is not only back for WrestleMania 29, but he is back for WrestleManias 30 and 31 as well. The new deal is a costly one for Vince McMahon but one well worth paying. The ROI that the WWE is getting on Brock is huge! The key here is holding Brock to those select dates and matches over the next couple of years. I can only hope that the WWE doesn’t get greedy and use up a lot of dates early on the former UFC champion.

[adinserter block=”2″]Brock Lesnar is one of a kind. Never in our lifetime will we see someone like Brock in pro wrestling. A former UFC champion that has the “it” factor in pro wrestling probably will never happen again. There is a reason this man was the biggest draw in UFC history.

So here is to Brock Lesnar. The best in the business and quite possibly the most important piece of the WWE picture.

  1. It’s like a friend of mine, a fellow Bork Lazer fan, said: “I mark out for Brock Lesnar like no one else because when his music hits, he’s about to whoop some ass, EVERY…SINGLE…TIME!”

I once again see what you mean about big time wrestlers being used sparingly being a good thing. It is connected to your later post about the World Champion not appearing every week being a good thing.

Cheers right back. Here’s to The Incredible Bork as we eagerly look forward to the next unfortunate fool he will smash.
