THQ and the WWE revealed the upcoming WWE 12 roster over the weekend at the SummerSlam 2011 Axxess event. The upcoming WWE video game will feature all of the obvious WWE superstars, legends, and quite possibly even the UFC’s biggest star.
The big WWE 12 video game event at Axxess saw THQ and the WWE announce rosters, show videos, release cover information, and more. Of course all eyes were set on the segment of the day where the roster would be revealed. While most of your typical names like Randy Orton, The Rock, and John Cena were announced, several surprises were announced as well. Yet the biggest surprise is rumored to come in a few weeks.
Lesnar is recovering from successful colon surgery and is reportedly in seclusion at home. Lesnar has reportedly cut off most communication during recovery and is taking a hiatus from his professional life. Lesnar is rumored to break that hiatus this October when he is announced as a playable character in the WWE 12 game and will take part in the marketing campaign to coincide with the announcement.
I have also heard rumblings that Paul Heyman will be joining Lesnar in the game as his manager. Wrestling Observer editor Dave Meltzer teased the news after the Saturday roster reveal on his F4Wonline.com website with the following blurb.
“There is at least one if not more major characters that will be announced in the future, a major one in September.”
The WWE, Lesnar, and the UFC have been reportedly in talks for awhile about getting Lesnar back involved in the company. The biggest negotiation reportedly came last year through early this year when the WWE tried to broker a deal to get Lesnar to return to action at WrestleMania 27. The UFC reportedly shot that deal down but the lines of communication were left open. There are also talks about a future Brock Lesnar DVD chronicling his WWE career.
There will be a total of 77 playable characters in WWE 12. 63 were announced yesterday, leaving another ten. I have also heard rumors of Hulk Hogan being a playable character in the game although the buzz on that has kind of died down. Demolition, Arn Anderson, Booker T, and Kevin Nash will also be in the game.
Update: Dana White has been confirmed that Brock Lesnar will be in the game. He told TMZ.com, “I love WWE and I have nothing but love for Vince McMahon — I’m totally OK with Brock being in the game.”
