A bombshell was dropped on Wednesday at the UFC 141: Lesnar vs. Overeem press conference thanks to Brock Lesnar. The former WWE pro wrestling superstar made a remark that has blown the lid off of the entire professional wrestling industry.
The former WWE champion’s background is regularly referenced in press pieces and mass media interviews. Sometimes it is downright humorous when a reporter or interviewer runs down Brock’s athletic accomplishments and recognizes pro wrestling the same as collegiate wrestling. Well the UFC star has had enough and has finally set the record straight and is tired of being labeled a professional wrestler.
“Unless you’ve lived in a cave for the last 50 years, you know WWE isn’t real. “
What! You mean? Wait a second? I cannot believe!
Believe it or not there will be some in the professional wrestling industry that take issue for what Brock said. There are some that still believe in kayfabe and protecting the industry. I wouldn’t be shocked to see someone from the industry looking for publicity challenge Brock to a fight. However, in 2011 you have to be logical and that cat has been out of the bag for years.
Personally, I don’t think it is a big deal and I can understand his frustrations. The guy has worked his butt off the last few years to become a legitimate UFC fighter, yet some still refer to him as a WWE wrestler doing MMA.
On the other hand, I am sure being an ex-WWE megastar didn’t hurt Brock’s negotiations getting into the UFC did it?
