Booking the WWE Championship Tournament at Survivor Series

Shocking news out of the WWE live event in Dublin Ireland last night with WWE Champion Seth Rollins tearing his ACL during a match with Kane. Rollins is expected to miss up to nine months with the serious knee injury and has been stripped of the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

This marks the second time that a serious injury has led to the cancellation of a Seth Rollins versus Roman Reigns match.

With John Cena taking some time off, Randy Orton, Daniel Bryan and now Seth Rollins on the shelf injured, the WWE is in a bit of a pickle.

Unfortunately, WWE doesn’t stop moving and despite losing a major spoke, the wheel needs to keep turning and that brings us to the already announced WWE World Heavyweight Championship Tournament at Survivor Series. This is how the WWE must book the event in order to crown their next champion.

Firstly, they need to throw out all plans they had for Survivor Series originally with the exception of The Brothers of Destruction versus The Wyatt Family. Throw The Dudley Boyz in there as Undertaker and Kane’s tag partners and make it a four on four elimination match.

Secondly, this gives the WWE a great chance to spotlight the women’s division. Charlotte and Paige now have extra spotlight and time to work with.

The next match on the card is The New Day versus The Lucha Dragons for the Tag Team Championships.

The final match is simply Alberto Del Rio versus Jack Swagger for the United States Championship. The other three slots on the card should be devoted to the tournament, which will be broken down now.

The tournament final and Survivor Series main-event will be a Triple Threat Match to determine the WWE World Heavyweight Champion, similar to what they did to crown the number one contender originally. Roman Reigns automatically qualifies for the match having already won the number one contendership.

From there, they will hold four qualifying matches on Raw to determine the two semi-final matches to take place at Survivor Series.

Dean Ambrose defeats Wade Barrett to qualify. Kevin Owens defeats Ryback, Cesaro defeats Alberto Del Rio with help from Jack Swagger and a returning Daniel Bryan defeats Big E. The WWE have been incredibly cautious with Bryan’s concussion injury, but they need him more than ever right now and must pull the trigger on his return.

Use SmackDown to give all five remaining competitors a chance to build the pay-per-view up with promos.

That brings us to Survivor Series where Dean Ambrose takes on Kevin Owens for a spot in the Triple Threat main-event. Owens defeats Ambrose clean in about 15 minutes.

Next up Daniel Bryan takes on Cesaro and Bryan gets the win. Give them every available minute that you can spare.

So the main-event is set. Kevin Owens versus Daniel Bryan versus Roman Reigns. All three men need to get close to winning, but it should be Reigns who gets the win. Just as the title enters his grasp, Vince’s music hits and he comes out asking the referee what he’s doing before stating the tournament isn’t over. Out comes Brock Lesnar who dismantles Reigns, who never officially became the champ, winning the tournament and leaving as the new WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

This gives the WWE a lot of options post-Survivor Series and allows them to go with Roman Reigns versus Brock Lesnar Two or whatever they want, using the Royal Rumble to crown the man to face Lesnar at WrestleMania.

It’s an awful situation for the WWE to be in, but they have a lot of options at this point in time. They just need to be get this championship decision right and there’s no safer option than Brock Lesnar.
