‘Body Heat’ Star William Died After a Long Illness

A huge loss was incurred by the entertainment industry as “Broadcast News” star William Hurt passed away at the age of 71 years. William Hart was an American actor who played famous roles in movies like “Body Heat” and “The Big Chill”. William Hurt was a starring man in movies in the 1980s, thanks to his laconic appeal and confident sensitivity as an actor.

Talking about the cause of death, Hurt died of natural causes on Sunday, according to Hurt’s son, Will. Hurt died quietly in the company of his family, according to his son. He died at his home in Portland, Oregon, according to The Hollywood Reporter. In 2018, Hurt was diagnosed with prostate cancer that had spread to his bones. Hence, it is quite evident that William Hurt might have succumbed to his fatal cancer.

Hurt was nominated for an Academy Award four times throughout his long career, winning for “Kiss of the Spider Woman” in 1985. Hurt soon established himself as a fixture of the 1980s with his debut in Paddy Chayefsky’s “Altered States” as a psychopathologist investigating schizophrenia and experimenting with sensory deprivation.

Hurt has a huge list of achievements as he was one of the greatest actors of his time. His latest movie was Mythic Quest which he did in 2021. Hurt was nominated for an Academy Award four times throughout his long career, winning for “Kiss of the Spider Woman” in 1985. Hurt soon established himself as a fixture of the 1980s with his debut in Paddy Chayefsky’s “Altered States” as a psychopathologist investigating schizophrenia and experimenting with sensory deprivation.

Hurt co-starred with Kathleen Turner as a lawyer enticed into murder in Lawrence Kasdan’s 1981 sensual neo-noir “Body Heat.” Hurt starred as Nick Carlton, a moody Vietnam War veteran, in “The Big Chill,” directed by Kasdan, in which he was one of a group of college mates who gathered for their friend’s burial.

Hurt’s personal life has been quite complicated. From 1971 to 1982, William and Mary were married. But Hurt was involved in an extra-marital affair with Jennings. This for obvious reasons created a stiff between William and Mary and Jennings’s pregnancy made the case worse. Hurt and Jennings got divorced.

Hurt and Jennings moved to South Carolina, a state that permitted common-law marriages. Hurt and Jennings subsequently divorced. Jennings sued him in New York, seeking legal recognition of their common-law marriage. The New York court refused to recognize a common-law marriage beginning in South Carolina and ruled in Hurt’s favor.

Hurt dated Marlee Matlin for a year before moving in with her. Matlin allegedly questioned Hurt, after winning the Oscar for Best Actress for Children of a Lesser God in 1986, what it meant to win the Oscar after only one film, while others won after years of hard effort. Then Hurt allegedly questioned her in the limousine, “What makes you believe you earned it, Marlee?”

Matlin said in her 2009 memoirs I’ll Scream Later that Hurt abused drugs and physically abused her.
