When you pay as much attention to detail as Peyton Manning does in the Indianapolis Colts’ offense, practice is like water, and the preseason tune up matters. Manning and the Indianapolis Colts have started the exhibition schedule 0-2, but that is more a testament to the team’s lack of depth than it is a criticism of the starters.
Now, Peyton Manning and the Colts head to Wisconsin to take on a Green Bay team that has split its first two preseason games, but lost the one that was played at Lambeau Field. The Packers don’t want to go 0-2 betting on NFL at home before a regular season in which big things are expected, and it will be interesting to see how their 3-4 defense fares against one of the most dangerous passing attacks in the league in what is projected to be good weather.
NFL Preseason Week Three
Indianapolis Colts @ Green Bay Packers
Thursday August 26, 2010 – 8:00 PM ET
Lambeau Field, Green Bay, Wisconsin
NFL Betting Line: Packers – 140
After losing in last year’s Super Bowl, Manning and the Colts aim to avoid the jinx that usually plagues runners up the following season, and will begin this regular season looking for a sixth straight 12-win campaign. The Colts are armed with one of the best receiving cores in the league, and should get a good test against a Packers defense that plays the 3-4, a system that Manning has struggled against in the part. Perhaps the more intriguing match up will be the one the Colts’ defense faces against Aaron Rodgers and the high-flying Green Bay offense. The Colts are thin in the secondary, and this will be an excellent gauge of how far a long some of their young talent truly is.
Betting Preview: Green Bay Packers
The Packers looked good in an opening loss to the Cleveland Browns, which seems like a ridiculous thing to say except for the fact that they weren’t losing when their starters were in the game. Green Bay followed up the defeat with a win over Seattle on the road the following week, and will look to give their home fans a taste of victory in their preseason home finale. Head coach Mike McCarthy is pleased with his team’s progress heading in to the regular season, and with his starters likely playing three quarters against the defending AFC champions, should get a better idea of where his team is in week three.
Although the Colts may have the better starting units, there isn’t as much pressure on them to perform on the road, and with big expectations in 2010-11, the Packers will want to avoid going winless in the preseason. Look for Green Bay to battle hard in a closely contested first half before taking over in the second half and pulling away.
