Anderson Silva Thinks Jon Jones Would Win UFC Super Fight

Anderson Silva has been publicly negotiating with the UFC for a fight with Jon Jones for months. Silva’s latest twist is telling fans that he doesn’t think he can beat Bones, a statement that many are seeing as nothing more than public negotiating.

The Silva vs. Jones super fight appears no closer today to being signed than ever. UFC president recently told the media that the plan was to book the fight in November at the UFC 20th Anniversary event in Madison Square Garden if MMA was legalized in New York. How the UFC could let that fight fall through simply due to location is a whole other story.

Silva is days away from his 11th UFC middleweight title defense but guess what? Nobody seems to care about his fight with Chris Weidman. Fans, media, and even Dana White want to talk about Silva vs. GSP or Jones in a mega fight. Who would win in this clash of champions? Well according to Silva, it wouldn’t be him.

“Jon Jones, in his class, is the best, Silva said. “If I fight Jon Jones, I don’t think I’m going to win.”

Does anyone truly believe that the greatest UFC fighter of all time is predicting himself to lose? I don’t. I think this is simply a negotiation. The less interested Silva seems in the fight, the more money the UFC will have to ante up to make it happen. I am not blaming him but I am also not about to believe him.

“Jon Jones is different,” Silva said. “He’s large. He’s young. But, in the fight, I see in Jon Jones, I see myself from a long time ago. He’s very smart.”

It’s all hypothetical at this point but I think it’s a fascinating fight. There are some people that feel as good as Bones Jones is that he hasn’t truly been tested by the best. Silva brings that challenge and Silva has much better stand up than Jones. If Silva could keep the fight up top, I think he could wreck the junior heavyweight champion.

Dana White insists that if Silva wins he’ll get either GSP or Jones next depending upon their results. The only thing nobody has addressed is whether Jones is even interested in the fight. He has said no several times and while he appears to be warming up, he has his eyes set on heavyweight. Again I think this is just a negotiating ploy like Silva but what if he is serious? How in the world can the UFC make this fight happen?

The only guarantee here is that Silva vs. Jones fight would be the biggest fight in the history of the UFC. It’s that big and whether Anderson believes he can win or lose, he believes he can get paid a lot of money and that appears to the driving factor in anything he has to say about a Jones fight.
