2013 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Week 13

The final week of the waiver wire before the fantasy football playoffs start isn’t as plentiful as your Thanksgiving dinner will be. There are some intriguing possibilities this week that are not only great insurance policies, but a couple of guys who could make an immediate impact.

[adinserter block=”1″]Quarterbacks

Carson Palmer, Arizona Cardinals – After a few rocky weeks Palmer has turned back the clock in Arizona. He has not had less than 17 points in the last three weeks and has a fantastic schedule heading into the playoffs. He is your difference maker if you are struggling at QB. He may be worth the add just in case your regular starter is on the bench due to a clinched playoff spot in Week 17.

Running Backs

Benny Cunningham, RB, St. Louis Rams – If you are expecting Zac Stacy production you are going to be disappointed. The early word out of St. Louis is that Fisher will play with a split backfield of Cunningham and Daryl Richardson. You can’t argue with his numbers but with some scary matchups ahead I would proceed with caution.

Dennis Johnson, RB, Houston Texans – The wheels are off the rails in Houston. Ben Tate had one yard while Johnson came in and had 74 yards on 13 carries. Personally I am staying clear of anyone on the Houston Texans at this point. Gary Kubiak is erratic and the players don’t look motivated. The only caveat here is a juicy matchup against the 21st ranked defense against fantasy running backs this weekend.

Wide Receivers

Justin Hunter, WR, Tennessee Titans – I hope those of you in need of a QB followed my recommendation on Ryan Fitzpatrick a couple of weeks ago. Hunter is a wide receiver who benefits from a gunslinger like Fitzy. Hunter had a big day Sunday and appears on the upside. An enticing matchup against the 27th worst ranked defense against fantasy wide receivers is a great reason to grab him and play him this week.

Robert Woods, Buffalo Bills – Woods was on the verge of breaking out earlier this season before the floor fell out from under him due to injuries. Woods is coming back and will be paired with EJ Manuel once again this Sunday. He could be a fantastic pickup heading into the playoffs and a great band-aid to your wide receiver situation.

Tight Ends

Ladarius Green, TE, San Diego Chargers – Green has now put together two fantastic games in a row. He obviously isn’t going to unseat Antonio Gates but he is really benefitting from the attention teams are giving to Gates. I am a little dubious of a guy who suddenly puts together two good weeks this late in the season. Yet if you do need help here he may be worth a gamble.

Coby Fleener, TE, Indianapolis Colts – The one and I do mean one bright spot in Indianapolis these days is Fleener. Fleener is finally putting up the numbers fantasy experts hoped to see earlier this season. I am always cautious of a guy who puts up big numbers in garbage time but at this point who cares? The Colts don’t look like they are improving any time soon so I’ll be happy to take the guy who racks up the garbage time points on my bench.

[adinserter block=”2″]Arizona Cardinals Defense – I could kick myself for not taking these guys last week. I had them in my cue but wound up going elsewhere. Take a look around the NFL and you’ll see that there aren’t a whole lot of consistent fantasy defenses these days. The Chiefs put up 3 points in two weeks. The Cards are about the only consistent fantasy D right now. They could be the real difference maker in those tough playoff matchups.
