I started this blog series back in December, just before the holidays, as the WrestleMania 29 season was just starting to heat up. Fortunately for me I was able to correctly pick at least three of the matches from that original blog (Punk/Taker, Rock/Cena & Lesnar/HHH) and potentially one more (Jericho/Ziggler) before it’s all done. This is the final go around for this blog series as WrestleMania 29 is weeks away and I thought I’d finalize any more predictions I may have:
Confirmed WrestleMania 29 matches:
The Rock (c) vs. John Cena (For the WWE Championship) – Predicted in December blog
Predicted this back in December yet it caught some fans by “surprise” because last year the company hyped their WrestleMania 28 match as “once in a lifetime.” They also hyped Triple H vs. The Undertaker “the end of an era” match yet the “Attitude era” ended in 2002. If you read my blog last week you know how I feel about all the complaining…just stop it and enjoy the match/build up.
Alberto Del Rio (c) vs. Jack Swagger (For the World Heavyweight Championship) – never predicted
CM Punk vs. The Undertaker – Predicted in December blog
This match became official at the start of March and as I expected The Undertaker is “good to go” for WrestleMania. I think there is a lot of intrigue with this match as it could be the time that Undertaker finally loses a WrestleMania match. Don’t count Punk out and think it’ll just be a “normal” Undertaker match at WrestleMania just yet.
Brock Lesnar vs. Triple H – Predicted in December blog
I’m very happy to see this match become official for WrestleMania 29. Both of these guys have had a great feud in the last year and will put on a very physical match at WrestleMania. Amazing how it has gone “under the radar” with most fans in social media when compared to The Rock/Cena and Punk/Taker reactions. This could very well steal the show on WrestleMania Sunday.
Predictions from December, January & February:
Chris Jericho vs. Dolph Ziggler – Predicted in December
I think it’s only a matter of time that this match becomes official for WrestleMania now that Jericho is back for the “WrestleMania final stretch.” I look for this match to be the “wrestling fan’s match” at WrestleMania this year.
Rey Mysterio vs. Sin Cara
There’s no way this match is happening now with Mysterio’s injury which is a shame as they were clearly building towards something this past Fall. Amazing how these two stars have taken fallen out of a flavor in the WWE.
Team Hell No (c) vs. The Primetime Players (For the WWE Tag Team Championship)
Officially chalk this one up as not happening anymore. Sad because I felt like the WWE Tag Team titles should’ve been defended after having such a big year as a “Division” once again.
Antonio Cesaro (c) vs. The Miz (For the WWE United States Championship) – Predicted in January
This match still has a chance I hope the WWE goes through with it. I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s the “pre-show” match leading into WrestleMania 29 this year. This has been one of the “underrated” feuds that I have really enjoyed on WWE TV lately.
Wade Barrett (c) vs. Sheamus (For the WWE Intercontinental Championship)
Sorry Wade Barrett, you’ve had a great year but this match definitely isn’t happening at WrestleMania.
Ryback vs. The Shield (Gauntlet match)
For some strange reason the WWE creative team has quietly removed Ryback from a feud with The Shield that made him look to be very weak in the process. It’s very strange that these two paths are ending at WrestleMania 29.
Randy Orton vs. The Big Show
Not happening either as it looks like instead of going one-on-one they may actually be teaming up together.
Daniel Bryan vs. Kane – Predicted in February
I’d rather see these two in a Tag Team match but if the WWE is going to put them on the card it appears it’ll be in the one-on-one capacity.
New Predictions for March 2013:
Ryback vs. Mark Henry
The WWE wants to have some sort of “beast” match with Ryback as the rumor months ago was The Big Show and now it appears it’ll be Mark Henry. Should this match happen and it likely appears that way, don’t expect a “match technician’s type of wrestling match.” This will be nothing more then pure strength vs. pure strength and could have the “WrestleMania moment” I have been teasing in these blogs the last four months.
Sheamus, Randy Orton and The Big Show vs. The Shield
[ad 1[We all knew The Shield was going to have a match at WrestleMania 29 but I think the feeling was it would happen in some way against Ryback. That isn’t the case as that feud has quietly disappeared all of a sudden and now the WWE looks to be focused on making The Big Show a face in this scenario again. Somewhere a joke is being made that The Big Show now leads Kane in heel-to-face or face-to-heel turns in a period of time. None the less it gets six great superstars on the card and I look forward to it being a fun match on April 7th…should it happen of course.
