For the very first time, this Sunday night, live from the new Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York, WWE presents TLC 2012. Yours truly is back with his predications for the upcoming pay-per-view. The card looks very intriguing as WWE could go in many different directions. While the order of matches is unknown at this time, it is very important for the outcome of the show. Here I will breakdown each match and give my idea as to who will be the winners and losers at WWE TLC 2012.
PreShow – “Santa’s Helper” No. 1 Contender’s Diva Battle Royal
Originally, AJ Lee was supposed to be in this match, but plans were once again changed with Naomi and Cameron taking her place. With that being said, since we have a heel WWE Divas Champion in Eve, I fully expect a babyface to win here. The only options are Naomi, Cameron and Kaitlyn for babyfaces. Therefore, even though I think the feud should be over already, I am going with Kaitlyn continuing her feud with Eve and winning the Diva’s Battle Royal.
No. 1 Contenders Match for the WWE Tag Team Championships (Tables Match) – Team Rhodes Scholars vs. Rey Mysterio and Sin Cara
This match was just announced on this past week’s Raw in which Cody Rhodes (with his moustache) returned to action after just three weeks out with injury.
Team Rhodes Scholars won a fatal four way elimination match to earn the right to face Mysterio and Sin Cara to see who will be the number one contenders for the WWE Tag Team Championships. Although it doesn’t seem to make sense why they had to win a fatal four way match to make it to WWE TLC 2012, Rhodes Scholars are in the match and will inevitably win.
Team Rhodes Scholars never officially ended their feud with Team Hell No, but Kane and Daniel Bryan already have plans for WWE TLC 2012. Team Hell No has lost some steam since getting together through anger management classes. Their WWE tag team title reign may be ending sooner rather than later. Therefore, expect Team Rhodes Scholars to come out on top of this tables match and go on to win the WWE Tag Team Championships in early 2013.
Winner: Team Rhodes Scholars
United States Championship – Antonio Cesaro (Champion) vs. R-Truth
Why is this match happening again? Not sure.
Whatever the reason may be for yet another Cesaro and Truth match, the outcome should not be any different. Cesaro has not had a legitimate opponent to feud with so far here in WWE and that includes R-Truth.
R-Truth is at the end of his career, while Cesaro is just getting started with his. I would love to see the Miz or a newcomer enter a feud with Cesaro in order to give him some competition and a real feud to show off his skills.
Winner: Antonio Cesaro (still U.S. Champion)
Intercontinental Championship – Kofi Kingston (Champion) vs. Wade Barrett
A little more than a week ago I wrote why Wade Barrett needs to win this match and the Intercontinental Championship and I still believe in what I said.
Wade Barrett is a WWE superstar who would have been a main event star or Mr. Money in the Bank if he hadn’t gotten injured. Either way, Kofi Kingston is a mid-carder for life who doesn’t need the Intercontinental Championship. The IC title used to be a championship that mid-carders who were the future of WWE held as a stepping stone to a World Title.
That is exactly why Wade Barrett should win this match. WWE seems to love Kofi Kingston and his relationship with the younger audience, but the smarter booking here would be to give the win to Barrett.
It should also be noted that Wade Barrett defeated Kofi Kingston to win his first Intercontinental Championship in March 2011.
Winner: Wade Barrett (NEW Intercontinental Champion)
World Heavyweight Championship (Chairs Match) – Big Show (Champion) vs. Sheamus
This feud should end with their chairs match at WWE TLC 2012, but how it ends will be determined by the order of the matches.
Last year at WWE TLC 2011, Big Show defeated Mark Henry in a chairs match for the World Heavyweight Championship. However, 45 seconds later, Daniel Bryan cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase to win his first World Title.
Could history repeat itself at WWE TLC 2012?
In a word – YES!
Big Show has dominated Sheamus throughout their feud and I don’t expect WWE TLC 2012 to be any different. Big Show will most likely retain, but the question becomes will Ziggler pull a Daniel Bryan and cash in? I am going with YES!
Winner: Big Show (still World Heavyweight Champion) UNTIL Dolph Ziggler cashes in MITB
Winner #2: Dolph Ziggler (NEW World Heavyweight Champion)
Ladder Match for the World Heavyweight Championship Money in the Bank contract – John Cena vs. Dolph Ziggler
Just like Wade Barrett’s situation with the Intercontinental Championship, Dolph Ziggler needs to win his match against John Cena.
Dolph Ziggler is becoming a top star in WWE and in order to continue building his character as a main event star, WWE cannot take the Money in the Bank briefcase off of him.
Just like Kofi Kingston, John Cena doesn’t need MITB or a World Title. He will still be featured just as much without a title.
Dolph Ziggler losing to Cena would ruin his momentum, but it’s still possible. John Cena could win and go on to cash in on the World Heavyweight Championship. If The Rock defeats CM Punk and becomes WWE Champion, it could set up a unification match between Rock and Cena for WrestleMania. Although a unification match is intriguing, this would derail Dolph Ziggler’s career.
Another scenario could be Dolph Ziggler cashing in his MITB earlier in the night and go on to defend the World Heavyweight Championship against John Cena in a ladder match. Although this seems unlikely, it would certainly make things interesting.
Also, remember that Dolph Ziggler’s shirt reads “stealing the show…and your girlfriend.” However, he has yet to steal anyone’s girlfriend. Could AJ Lee help Ziggler and be the first girlfriend for Dolph to steal?
With that said, the order of matches at WWE TLC 2012 will help determine the direction WWE is going, but either way, Dolph Ziggler needs to win.
Winner: Dolph Ziggler (still Mr. Money in the Bank)
Team Hell No and Ryback vs. The Shield (TLC Match)
This match quickly came together after the injury to WWE Champion CM Punk and although there is no title at stake it should still be fun to watch.
It will the Shield’s first official match on the WWE main roster, which raises the question as to who will win the match.
Should the Shield win their first match? Should Ryback lose three pay-per-views in a row?
Although it would be Ryback’s third loss in just as many months, if the Shield were to win with some help, Ryback would continue to look strong.
That’s the most likely scenario.
Don’t forget that Brad Maddox returned as a referee this past Raw in the Vickie Guerrero and AJ Lee match. Brad Maddox could certainly be the referee for the Shield’s match against Team Hell No and Ryback.
Whether it is Brad Maddox, Paul Heyman, Vickie Guerrero or a newcomer from NXT, I fully expect the Shield to win and to do so by pinning Kane or Daniel Bryan. There is no way Ryback is being pinned and I would be very surprised to see the Shield lose their first match.
Winners: The Shield
WWE TLC 2012 has the potential to be full of surprises. As stated before, the order of matches is crucial for the first time in a long time.
At the same time, it is the first time we will see the Shield in a match, which should be very entertaining. We’ve been waiting for Dean Ambrose for so long, let’s hope he delivers.
As I will be in attendance, I am excited and hoping to see a cash in and great action involving tables, ladders and chairs. Oh my.
