WWE Night of Champions 2013 Predictions and Preview

This Sunday is WWE Night of Champions 2013, the one night that all WWE titles are supposed to be on the line. The keyword here is supposed to. However, there are only five scheduled matches. The United States Champion Dean Ambrose is not on the card and Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel is not defending the title. Ambrose could be given an impromptu match with Dolph Ziggler, but it should be a match that was already announced.

I will do my best here to predict the already announced matches for Night of Champions and include any impromptu matches I expect.

The Prime Time Players vs. The Usos vs. Tons of Funk vs. The Real Americans vs. 3MB (Tag Team Turmoil No. 1 Contender’s Match)

[adinserter name=”366 left”]Five tag teams will face off to determine the number one contenders for the tag team titles. Does it matter? Probably not. The team that wins the pre-show match will face Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns for the titles that same night.

The Shield continues to be unstoppable and even more so since joining Triple H and the new corporation faction. Despite this, the only reasonable teams to win the tag team turmoil match are the Usos and the Prime Time Players. This is partly due to the fact that they are the only babyface teams in the match. The Usos received their title match during the pre-show of Money in the Bank so I don’t think we will see a rematch.

The Prime Time Players have been on an impressive winning streak since Darren Young came out as the first active WWE superstar. Therefore, I expect the Prime Time Players to win.

Winners:  The Prime Time Players

WWE Tag Team Championship: The Shield’s Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns © vs. The Prime Time Players

As I said previously, I don’t think it matters who wins the tag team turmoil match because The Shield will likely retain their titles. If The Shield were to lose the tag titles to the Prime Time Players, it would hurt them greatly.

Although Young and Titus O’Neil have been winning a lot lately, they are still considered a level below Reigns and Rollins.

Winners: Seth Rollins and Roman Reigns (still WWE Tag Team Champions)

WWE Divas Championship: AJ Lee © vs. Natalya vs. Brie Bella vs. Naomi (Fatal 4-Way Match)

It is kind of sad, but this is AJ’s toughest competition to date as divas champion. With the success of E! Total Divas, the WWE could decide to put the title on one of the ladies on the show. The most likely candidate is Natalya since she is the best wrestler.

However, I still think AJ retains the title. The match is already helping intertwine the show with regular WWE storylines. The outcome could also lead to AJ continuing to feud with the Total Divas.

Winner: AJ Lee (still Divas Champion)

World Heavyweight Championship: Alberto Del Rio © vs. Rob Van Dam

The World Heavyweight title picture is arguably the least interesting of any current championship in WWE. The feud between Del Rio and RVD is more about Del Rio and Ricardo Rodriguez. For whatever reason, WWE has not used Ricardo as a wrestler and instead has put Van Dam in that place.

Once again, my hope is that Damien Sandow will cash in Money in the Bank and rid us of this terrible world championship reign. Sandow is losing regularly in typical Mr. Money in the Bank fashion. Despite this, it is only a matter of time.

Unfortunately, this scenario doesn’t seem like a realistic situation in which Sandow will cash in. I also don’t see any reason for Van Dam to win. Somehow Del Rio will keep the title, but continue to feud with Ricardo.

Winner: Alberto Del Rio (still World Heavyweight Champion)

CM Punk vs. Intercontinental Champion Curtis Axel and Paul Heyman (Handicap Elimination Match)

CM Punk should finally get his hands on Paul Heyman when he faces his former friend and Curtis Axel in a handicap elimination match. There must be a reason behind Axel’s Intercontinental title not being defended at this pay-per-view. It could mean Punk is winning and WWE didn’t want to put the title on him. Or perhaps the feud is just not about the title and thus, there was no reason for the championship to be on the line.

Chances are Axel will get eliminated, thus Heyman and Punk will go one-on-one. Has anyone considered Brock Lesnar making an appearance? His contract limits his number of appearances so they may not want to waste one here. Either way, Heyman must have a plan. WWE and Heyman wouldn’t actually have him get beaten by Punk.

Winner: Paul Heyman

WWE Championship: Randy Orton © vs. Daniel Bryan

Could this be the night Daniel Bryan defeats Randy Orton and becomes the face of WWE? NO! NO! NO! It is way too soon for Bryan to win and way too soon for this feud to end. As repetitive as Raw and Smackdown have become, this feud is lasting at least until Survivor Series.

Just like Heyman has a plan, Triple H and Randy Orton must have one also. Don’t be surprised to see The Shield get involved. Somehow, some way Bryan will get screwed. Hopefully, it’s done in a creative and surprising way.

Winner: Randy Orton (still WWE Champion)

Other Matches and Notes

[adinserter name=”366 right”]I expect to see Dean Ambrose in action and as I said earlier against Dolph Ziggler. However, it won’t make a difference as the two superstars are headed in opposite directions. Ambrose’s stock continues to rise as Ziggler’s has been dropping.

Could we see a Night of Champions where every current champion retains his title? I think there is a strong possibility of it. Unless Sandow cashes in, I won’t be surprised if there are no new champions crowned. The heels in the WWE have been ruling and in my opinion, that trend will continue.
