On Sunday, April 29, 2012, in the Windy City of Chicago, WWE will be showing Extreme Rules. WWE loves to have PPVs in Chicago, and it is not a surprise. WWE has a relationship with the city of Chicago, not unlike the group KISS has with the city of Detroit in that Chicago seems to have embraced WWE much like Detroit embraced KISS.
The WWE talent all talk about how the Chicago crowds are the best, and how energetic they are, much like how KISS, especially in the early days, talked about how the city of Detroit, with it being an industrial city, and it’s surrounding areas embraced the band, and especially the small towns like Cadillac, MI, where KISS made their famed appearance at the Cadillac High School in 1975.
The city even got a song named “Detroit, Rock City” named for it. Chicago crowds, as I mentioned, equally go bonkers over WWE shows, and give their PPVs a life of their own. If one doesn’t believe me, go back and watch and listen to the response when Chicago’s own C.M Punk won the WWE Title, and walked out with it. I have been to 46 KISS shows all over the world, and that crowd noise rivaled a KISS show. Trust me. The city of Chicago deserves as many WWE PPVs as it can get.
[adinserter name=”366 right”]That being said, I will be blogging about who I think will be winning at the Extreme Rules PPV which will be taking place at the All State Arena in Chicago which will be featuring C.M Punk as he defends his WWE Title against Chris Jericho. Other matches include the returning Brock Lesnar vs John Cena, The Big Show vs Cody Rhodes for the IC Belt, Beth Phoenix vs Nikki Bella for the Diva Belt, Sheamus vs Daniel Bryan for the World Title, Orton vs Kane, and in the preview on Youtube: Santino vs The Miz. Well, let’s get started.
Youtube Opener: Santino vs the Miz:
On Youtube, they are putting as an opener, Santino vs the Miz to try to get people who are deciding at the last minute whether or not to buy the PPV, I am guessing. Why? I thought you were supposed build the PPV for the four weeks. I mean, the last minute stragglers who are deciding to buy or not to buy the PPV are going to be persuaded by a match between Santino and the Miz? I mean, really. I honestly don’t care who wins.
Prediction: The match sucks and Santino wins and gets to play his horn.
Randy Orton vs Kane in a Falls Count Anywhere Match
I don’t mean to sound impatient, but is this feud over yet? Seriously, let’s get this over with already. I like Kane, but can we get him into a feud where we do not have to have poor Paul Bearer in danger ad nauseum? I mean, we have had Bearer killed off so many times, that I wonder that the next time we see Bearer, will it be in a hologram. Anyway, I really have no interest much in this feud. I know they are pushing Sheamus as a top baby face, and they are desperately trying to fill the huge void that Edge left when he was forced into retirement, but I just don’t know why Orton is even IN a feud with Kane. Why was poor Bob Orton involved? Please end this feud.
Prediction: Randy Orton gets the win.
Big Show (c) vs Cody Rhodes in a Spin the Wheel Make the Deal match for the Intercontinental Title
Well, this should be a real barn burner…NOT. Whatever the stipulation, I just hope this match is kept short. I don’t remember a lot of the build up to this match, except now you have Big Show trying to make fun of Cody Rhodes. I am guessing that Show may be a transitional champion. I also notice that Show and Khali are tagging together so maybe they may be a thrown together tag team in the future.
Prediction: Cody Rhodes regains the Intercontinental Title
Nikki Bella (c) vs Beth Phoenix for the Diva’s Title
Man, I hate injury angles. I just do. The main reason is that fans are not stupid, well, I should say MOST are not stupid. I mean, in today’s world, with the internet, and twitter, and social media, fans have too much access to information for kayfabe to work like it did during the “good old days.” I mean, I just don’t see a need for the injury angle. I guess they want Beth Phoenix to have an excuse as to why she could not beat Nikki (weren’t the lumberjills enough though?), and when the rumored to be returning Karma comes in and destroys Nikki and and Brie, Beth could say that Karma “did not pin her.” Therefore we have Beth vs Karma.
Prediction: I am going to say Nikki retains over Beth who is going in on “one leg” (per Beth’s twitter). The Bella Twins’ contract (unless they did sign an extension) runs out on Monday, April 30, 2012. I am guessing that either Karma comes in and destroys both Nikki and Brie Bella at the PPV, or Karma waits till the day after to destroy them, and starts the feud with Beth.
CM Punk (C) vs Chris Jericho for the WWE Title in a Chicago Street Fight
The build up to this has been pretty good. I do wish that it had not gotten so personal, even though I appreciate the realism of using Punk’s real life family situations. The buildup got a bit weird with making Punk do all those silly sobriety tests. However, this should be one of the best worked matches on the PPV. The two had a very good match at Mania. The crowd definitely will get this match a lot of heat. I wonder who they will be cheering for?
Prediction: I am having a hard time calling this one. Jericho is not going to be around for Summerslam, according to his own words as he said his band was going to do a tour or whatever. I just can not see WWE putting the belt on him. I think CM Punk retains his WWE Title
Sheamus (c) vs Daniel Bryan in a 2 out of 3 falls
This should be a very good to excellent match. The match has had so so build up, but I love the saga with former Champion Daniel Bryan and his ex girlfriend, AJ. Bryan’s turning into a fantastic heel. I thought those “Yes….” chants were annoying at first, but now I love it. As for Sheamus, I think he is doing a great job as the babyface, but I think somehow, Bryan is going to avenge his quick loss at Mania.
Prediction: This will go to all three fall for sure. I think there will be a title change here. Daniel Bryan with possible help from his ex, AJ, becomes the NEW World Champion
Brock Lesnar vs John Cena in an Extreme Rules Match
[adinserter name=”366 left”]The Raw after WrestleMania 28 ended with a huge bang when John Cena called out the Rock, asking to shake hands with Rock after the Rock defeated him at Mania, but wound up being the victim of a HUGE F5 by a returning Brock Lesnar. Of course, most wrestling fans remember Lesnar for how he left WWE, and how he didn’t really love the business, and such. Fans also remember his stint in the NFL as a member of the Minnesota Vikings, and his stint as a UFC fighter, etc. Well, now he is back., as an “ass kicker” in a feud with WWE’s top dog, John Cena. Cena , on the other hand, it appears, storyline-wise is on some sort of losing streak. He lost to the Rock, the new character , Lord Tensai, and is getting his rear end handed to by Brock Lesnar every week on Raw. Even John Cena’s greatest rival Edge came into give John a pep talk to get him to “wake up.”
This match is going to be interesting to say the least.
Prediction: I think Lesnar should win this match. No way do you bring him back just to have him lose. Lesnar destroys Cena.
