The WWE Elimination Chamber 2013 event is just hours away and I thought it would be fun to get in some last minute predictions. Forget about your typical winner and loser predictions, I want to talk about some real shockers we could see tonight at the prelude to WrestleMania 29.
Now keep in mind that these surprises are what I’d call bold in that the odds aren’t good that a lot of these take place, but they aren’t impossibilities. So before you come on here and tell me what kind of a fool I am that none of these happened, remember this is just for fun.
Dolph Ziggler cashes in Money in the Bank and wins the WWE world heavyweight title - Ziggy is conspicuously absent from one of the biggest pay per view events of the year. For a guy that is expected to have a big part in WrestleMania, his benching doesn’t make sense. Maybe it does? If this happens I’d look for a babyface like Chris Jericho to win in the SmackDown chamber match earlier in the night to set this up. The announcers will be talking about this “dream” match where in reality we all know that the match isn’t going to happen. Later in the night Ziggler cashes in, wins and goes to WrestleMania. Anyone have a problem with a Ziggler vs. Jericho WrestleMania match? I didn’t think so.
Randy Orton turns heel and helps The Shield - The Shield vs. John Cena, Ryback, and Sheamus is a really interesting match from a booking perspective. Who loses? Do you stop The Shield who are red hot right now and give them a loss in their biggest match before WrestleMania or do you dare give Cena a loss before his biggest match ever? I think there is only one way out of this match and that is for a big angle here. Like Ziggler, Orton is another interesting name here without a match. An Orton vs. Sheamus match has been penciled in at WrestleMania for awhile now, yet there have been no hints of a turn. Look for Orton to come out, RKO one of The Shield members, then turn around and do the same to Sheamus, setting up for another Shield member to pin Sheamus. This would accomplish a lot in regards to future WWE booking. The angle can take Sheamus vs. Orton through June and lead into a Cena vs. Orton match at SummerSlam. Listen, I am not saying I want to see that match again but it would fill a lot of holes post-Mania.
CM Punk regains the WWE championship - If there is one thing that would probably shock me more than anything at the Elimination Chamber it would be Punk leaving as WWE champion. Nobody is expecting it which always makes it a possibility, as distinct as it is. The Undertaker is apparently being coy about his Mania status right now in regards to his match with Punk. If The Undertaker tells the WWE he isn’t working, maybe they go with a Punk vs. Cena vs. Rock Triple Threat Match? I don’t like it but it would likely be a consideration. Cena can pin Punk which would still leave a Cena vs. Rock match open at some point, maybe even SummerSlam?
The Undertaker returns and costs Punk the WWE title - Back to The Undertaker. If the WWE is really going with a Punk vs. Undertaker WrestleMania match, they certainly haven’t built any real issue building towards it. Maybe Undertaker interferes as a favor to Vince McMahon (talk about convoluted booking) and Paul Heyman tries to turn this around on RAW Monday as Rock intentionally trying to get himself disqualified. This wouldn’t be the first time the lights went off and came back on with Punk staring face to face with the Dead Man. As sketchy as it would be from a booking standpoint, it would sure get them to WrestleMania.
